I haven't mined on nicehash but I believe it's one of those altcoin hopping proxy pool, isn't it?  Altcoin blocks are much easier to find than btc blocks. Too bad those weren't all btc blocks. I'm guessing you've found quite a bit of practically worthless altcoin blocks.  Wink

ok that makes more sense

what would be a good fan replacment? I dont really care about noice  Grin
I assume if you can get the chips cooler they will hash more and also more stable right?

Your fans won't go above 3K if your temps aren't high enough. If you're getting 1.5TH, you likely have a dead hashboard. Look to see if one of the board's red LED is off.

Not really, no. Lower temp might contribute to having less "x" chips, but probably not unless you're close to 80c. If you don't care about noise, get some high power Delta fans.

Noice isnt my problem, dust it is!  3 fans are  death after 3 weeks only, see pic. I am looking for some fan that can handle dust. sealed bearing maybe? Higher rpm?

nokati what type of environment are you running in?  That is not normal dust build up in 3 weeks on top of miner.

I personally have never had a dust problem like this.  Yes every few month's maybe spray them out.  But it appears you must be running in harsh conditions.

Damn, that's a lot of dust. If I were you I'd open it up and blow it out with compressed air (from a compressor, not a can) every month.

Delta fans are pretty much the best quality fans out there, if anything will deal with the dust it will be them.

How old is that camera? LOL

I am running them laterally mid in Sahara  Grin  But the elc cost are low Wink

For my new S5 I am planning watercooling and using some big ass car radiator. But for the S4 I need to find a good solution as I have already 5x S4 getting to mush dust.

I am not always around so I cant use filters and replace them every week or so..... I need a solution that dont need a remote hand for as long as possible.

pic is taken using the remote cam Smiley

Ah, that explains the low quality pic.

Dust will still be an issue with water cooling, you'll just clog up your radiator. If you can't prevent the dust from entering the building or the miner with filters, your only solution is cleaning them out regularly.

wel I was going for a car radiator as I was think if it can handel a car,  it should be fine for miners. because I have never clean up my car radiator.

my best geus is that if a fan use sealed bearing it should  last much longer....  I think I should just get some of those delta fan and we will see if they can last more than 3 weeks.

Well that would explain the dust Smiley.

The problem I see is I don't see water cooling as a option.   Just no one has put money into it that I know of.  So that would mean custom parts so high to do it.

The amount of dust you have I don't think will matter what kind of fan no matter how good it will die off from it eventually. (My opinion I could be wrong.  Even if fans don't die it will have dust build up on exhaust).

I think you will have to go with a filtered option.  It's not perfect but you could do a filter for main room it's in (and clean it really good to get dust out before).  Then maybe build a enclosure for your S4 with extra filters.  Hopefully by using multiple it will allow you be remote for longer and not kill fans or worse machines.

If it looks like that on top i would love to see inside.   I have never seen anyone with that amount of dust in 3 weeks.  That is harsh conditions.  None of my S4's look anything like that.  I do spray them out every once in a while, but dust has never been a issue for me.

Speaking of dust, I bought 2 used S4s this week from someone local in Montreal who was running 16 S4s in a "data center". I've never seen more disgusting hardware in my life! Dirt was literally baked on everything, the picture doesn't really do it justice especially since the top of the hash boards were the cleanest part. Take a look:

Pre-cleaning (middle and bottom were much worse):

After cleaning and installing a proper replacement PSU:

And now she's purring:

I wish I would have weighed the S4 before and after cleaning. No kidding, there must have been a pound of dirt and filth in there. I'd love to see where this person is running their machines.

This unit actually had a huge defect, BITMAIN used a wrong nut and one of the 12v connections on a lower hash board was completely loose. It barely even touched the bolt's threads, slipping right off when trying to tighten it. I've never seen this nut before in an S4, so some asshole at BITMAIN's assembly line was too fucking lazy to get off his ass and fetch a proper nut right before he finished his shift on a Friday night.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes The wire's terminal was completely charred along with the nut and washer, the rubber insulation almost completely melted away, and the hash board looks damaged but works fine as far as I can tell. I don't know why I didn't take pics, but I still have the charred connector on the PSU if anyone wants a look. I'm putting the blame on BITMAIN since, judging by the sorry state the S4 was in when I got it, the previous owner had never bothered to open it up.

Amusingly, somehow both units PSUs still worked even though they were stuffed with dirt/dust. Pretty funny considering I run my other S4s in a clean environment with very little dust, and I've had 4 out of 5 PSUs die on me.  Roll Eyes

Edit: Just noticed that you can see the charred washer in the second picture, beside the screw driver's handle.

With all the pictures of dust I went ahead and cleaned my S4's.  They were pretty clean with running most of winter without a proper cleaning, just getting rid of dust on fans.

Only one that seemed to have a little dust was the one that I had on a metal shelf up higher.  Seems being above got a little extra dust.  But did not look bad.  Took a rag and some canned air and now look very clean Smiley

There is a rumor that S4+ will soon be available.

Dear BITMAIN, we want (and need) new chips. New miners. Not polished old hardware like S3++, S4+...

p.s. and please don't forget about S2 uprade kits.  Roll Eyes
