I've been running some numbers, one thing I see is that the SP-20 vs. the S4 is an under volt advantage that gains you money at the wall in favor of SP.. I may be wrong, but if they come out with new tech ANY batchs of the S4 won't even come close to ROI.. I bought some of the FIRST S4s to ship, and they are no where close to ROI . Even with the coupon, I can't pull the trigger when my first several S4's are so far under water. It takes me almost 15 days of mining to cover electricity cost alone. Anything after 15 days goes to the under water s4's .. This late in the game on the 28nm tech I can't find a reason to grab more. Anyone else have thoughts on how to make the s4 more profitable ?
With a coupon I can get 4 S4s for 3358 to my door. My calculations put me at Mid-February before i am losing money every day. All told I will spend $3358 and make about $1500 in revenue. So I lose $1800. How is anyone buying these and making this work. Even with free power and difficulty increasing at 10% I don't break even until June of next year. I would love to get into mining, but I cannot see how mining can make any sense to anyone anywhere unless you get the hardware for half what is the current going rate per mhs and free power. 1) https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty difficulty is slowing, and its unlikely there will be any 10%+ increases until a dramatic price rise occurs - though next week may see a big jump due to the black friday deals by SPTech and Bitmain. 2) most people mining assume the bitcoin price will rise such that profitability is extended 3) you can underclock/undervolt to 0.5w/GH to extend the lifespan If you look at your calculations you basically assume it wont be profitable past june because you are assuming the price of bitcoin is still only $375 at that time, when (i personally believe) a price of $800+ is likely. If it isnt, you can expect the influx of new equipment to grind even further to a halt as all 1w/gh+ equipment is turned off. I don't understand the price must rise to justify mining logic. I can spend 9 BTC on miners now, I don't care about the price in the future, i want my 9 BTC back. I will never get there with any calculation I come up with. Anyone that is justifying buying a miner with a rising price, I suggest that you simply buy Bitcoin with your money rather than a stupid miner. I would not be surprised to see a drop in hashrate and difficulty in the coming months. Which tells me the price is going down... not up. why not ? do you pay high power? do you pay vat? I get buy 3 s-4's with a coupon for 2762 if I down clock to 1800gh they burn 1100 watts so 5400 = 3300 watts this is .611 watts a gh at 10 cents a watt and 3% diff jumps they break even in aug (btc stays at 375 usd) if btc jumps to 400 they break even in June. Do I think they are great investments no I don't. But they may make money.

More S1 upgrade kits please!!
you could feasibly use the C1 as a pair of upgrade kits, but its not ideal. Not sure why bitmain isnt selling upgrade kits for ~0.3BTC/kit How many people would be interested in another S1 upgrade kit batch?

I'd like to see it. My first S4 worked for a long time with EVGA SUPERNOVA G2 1300W at frequency 181.25M and only 1630GH/s with 1180W You can never from S4 .611 watts a gh The second S4 is even more power hungry , at frequency 181.25M 1240W and 1800 GH/s The second S4 PSU is without a PCI-E cables.

I agree with "may" only because probability is not zero.

HELP
Just received my Antminer S4 and having a difficult time setting it up. When turning the machine on it whirls at full speed/noise, but never settles down. The LCD screen is bright but never displays any text. Anyone know what the issue is?
This occurs whether directly plugged into my computer, or plugged into a Netgear N300 wifi to Ethernet adapter. I unscrewed the lid, and all of the cables appear to be plugged in properly.
Popped the SD Card out, and then pushed it back in. Miner worked! Stable after adding CK's cgminer mod. Running 1.82GH at (hopefully) 1060W as suggested on BtcGuild. Thanks for the help on this thread!

Mind posting the Freq. and Voltage your using and/or a link to the article you read? Cassey

so is anyone running freq 187.5 with 0.685 volts? if so what do you get for hash rate watts/ power numbers and fan speeds?
better yet has anyone done freq 175 with 0.670 volts? if so what do you get for hashrate watts used and fan speed?
TIA

Exactly, coupon expires tomorrow, then free shipping on Dec 2. Marketing at it's best.
wait i want to make sure i understand this clearly? So they are running coupon and after that expires they are moving into free shipping? Are the Psu's still going up in flames? 1) Free shipping is a Black Friday deal only, to the best of my knowledge. Shipping fees are likely to return. Even though they should definitely not. Very bad business move cutting that service, as I have no doubts that it has cost them considerable business. *free shipping is ONLY available for the Black Friday Bundle of sixteen S4 units. 2) Coupons have been extended. Again. December 15th now I believe. Still being sold. Still being given away. And now Bitmain offers to give them to anybody for free, regardless of past purchases. Maybe it is about time Bitmain gives up on coupons. Talk about an exercise in futility, and a perfect way to alienate and piss off customers. ADVERTISE THE AFTER COUPON PRICE, AND BE DONE WITH IT. 3) PSU's are not going up in flames 33%+ of the time anymore. It is rare when it happens, and Bitmain is well practiced at replacing PSU quickly now. I wouldn't let that hold you back anymore.

Very bad business move cutting that service, as I have no doubts that it has cost them considerable business. *free shipping is ONLY available for the Black Friday Bundle of sixteen S4 units. The idea was probably to take business away from ebay resellers. Right now price is artificially low at bitmain (before you get to shipping), which makes it more competitive with ebay second hand prices (shipping tends to be much lower or free on ebay)2) Coupons have been extended. Yes, what is the point of coupons when they are basically permanent? Again, this is probably a move to "decimate" primary resellers that suppose to give discounts to the advertised price, not to the "after coupon" price3) PSU's are not going up in flames 33%+ of the time anymore. It is rare when it happens, and Bitmain is well practiced at replacing PSU quickly now. I wouldn't let that hold you back anymore.

How did you guys connect a different power supply to your S4? I think I had a power surge and one of my S4s wont turn on anymore and I want to see if it works with a 1600 watt EVGA PSU. Do I just connect the PCIE cables to the hash boards and then turn on the PSU? I assume the LED screen will no longer turn on as well since it is connected to the factory PSU.
Thank you for any advice on the matter!

If you open the case and see PCI-E power connectors being connected to the PCBs inside, then you can connect your EVGA 1600 PSU's PCI-E connectors t each connection point and it should work. 1 PCI-E connection to the Control PCB (Behind the LCD but the connector is facing up) 4 PCI-E connections to the hashing PCB (should be front side 2 on the top and 2 at the bottom) If you have the newer batch, then the power spec is the same but it uses almost like a terminal screw type connection to each hashing PCB. One is ground and the other is positive (red) How did you guys connect a different power supply to your S4? Has anyone tried the 100 or 125 MHz clock settings provided by Bitmain? I'm just looking for feedback if everything is working properly, and if the power from the wall is as advertised? Is there any risk from underclocking? I'm also curious about the 200Mhz with the lower voltage setting. If the lower voltage gets the same GH/s while using less electricity, then why not make it the default? Thoughts? Any response from Bitmain?

Yes. 0650 125M 700W 1160GH/s There is still too expensive and too big from underclocking. I prefer underclocked SP20
