Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

- Some poor person just paid a 200BTC transaction fee to ASICminer

- ASICMiner refunds the accidental 200 BTC transaction fee. Friedcat is a true hero of the Bitcoin community

If it is a pool that communicates with the general community it will usually refund the fees.  BTCGuild's Eleuthria did that as well before on a large fee block.

GHash.io may very well refund the fees and we would never know - their communication with the mining community isn't the greatest.

Try making a ticket and see where that gets you Tongue

We have refunded genuine mistakes and they have been documented here on this forum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=602152.0

It would really suck to accidentally pay that much in fees without the pool that found the block being kind enough to give you your coins back.

This guy was pretty lucky, not saying I would keep that number,  but there would be enough people who did.

But honoustly, if someone "exxidentally" send like 200 BTC to my wallet, I would wait for someone to reclaim them and otherwise cash out 100 BTC at least Tongue
If someone would claim them I would keep a few as a show of good faith. lol.

Wow, that's ridiculous. How can you make such a huge mistake. Lucky that ghash was nice enough to refund it though. So crazy..

Wait a minute, before you all go praising ghash... where did you see the owner of those fees come forth and identify themselves and when did ghash return it?

Ghash just said they did in post 7. Scroll up and see.

Edit: Seems like the person hasn't identified themselves yet, but maybe they'll show themselves eventually.

No, they said they have done so (the particular case was 2.8BTC). They did not say that have done so in this case, and there's no evidence of it having happened this time.  Of course the onus is on the person who made the mistake to identify themselves first and request it.
