I don't know why, but they clearly say that an app that allows Bitcoins to be used is not OK.

Their horrible system works because there's an endless supply of naive people who fall for the superficial charm of their slick advertising, not-too-shabby hardware quality, and collection of "approved apps" that are vetted more tightly than a Nazi concentration camp.

That part's not true though, they have awesome products (IMO obviously). What sucks is their close-everything attitude (and also Objective C).

They can't indeed, but native apps can scan QR codes and use push notifications which are must-haves.
(And don't tell me you can scan QR codes using an external app, that just doesn't cut it )

For me and most of my friends it cuts it... It is as fast to use as a native app, so what is your point? Why don't you just implement some web UI and QR code scanning features to instawallet as well, it is very simple to do. You can just copy easywallet.org like I copied instawallet, LOL

I don't get you guys. Jailbreaking is the thing that won't cut it. People don't want to even hear about it. "Jailbreak... What? Is it legal?"

I would argue that the process of installing a web based client might be even faster than the installation of the native one.

Apple needs to open up the camera functions to webapps, just like they have opened up the geo-location and other features.  Once they allow the camera, it will make bitcoin web-apps much easier to function.  Copy/Paste is a killer for any practical bitcoin use.  Scan and Send is a must if bitcoin is going to be more widely accepted.  It works perfectly fine for me on the blockchain app now.  In fact, I used it to pay at Whiskey Dicks last week.  just scan the QR code and press the send button, that's it.

With all due respect for its developer, I believe its best that Bitpak is no longer available as is because the time it took to download the chain and receive the first coins was just too long. It would have given the wrong impression to new users (not aware of the subtleties like leaving the app running in the foreground). That's probably true of any attempt to run a "heavy" client on a mobile device. Thin clients or html5 are the way to go mobile.

Apple denies Bitcoin apps because it denies any apps having to do with virtual currency.  It's in their EULA or ToS or whatever it's called for developers.

That doesn't work for bringing Bitcoin to the masses of people using iPhones though...  That's a LOT of people who are blocked from utilizing Bitcoin on their phones.  At least, using it easily.
