Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

At Just-Dice one of the most profitable days was when someone bet 7016.28891331 BTC @ 96.2% and lost. He was only aiming to profit by 204 BTC, which was less than the site's max profit and so the bet was allowed.  @suben380 Read this. |
