Thanks for this one!
I will add more nodes on TESTNET - basically I have some 'free' servers on a terribly unreliable webhost i.e. constant outages, randomly deleted or borked instances, so constant re-installs etc., I run gapminer on each single core instance, rpc mining at gapcoin club.
These instances won't therefore be mining testnet in-wallet - I will add 1 mining instance on other more reliable infrastructure.
A solid testnet will help to facilitate development.

Tried to login to the club twitter (in preparation for the #PiDay giveaway) and discovered that twitter have kindly suspended the account (reason currently unknown). Trying to re-instate the account or will get someone else to great a new one in time for the giveaway!

Testnet is 'dead' again. BS host (cloudatcost - avoid like the plague!) cancelled my account for no justifiable reason whatsoever. Interest in Gapcoin has certainly waned here along with forum / community / exchange support etc., ... Unfortunately I currently have no alternative other than to closed down the majority of my nodes and Tor support for Gapcoin. Gapcoin nodes (along with the Tor Bridges) will therefore be terminated on 31st May 2019. Sad times.  The https://gapcoin.club node and a couple of network nodes will remain hosted to help ensure the Gapcoin blockchain is preserved. If I can find the time (and resources) to fully re-launch Gapcoin in the future I will ... Clearly no one else really cares at present. |

What resources are needed to support the node?
Nothing is required. I've mined the gapcoin's I wish to of mined currently. $5 a month per. node is a cost for the project that I no longer wish to have. Some of these nodes are (were) hosted with digital ocean (who do not currently accept Bitcoin). I may move some new nodes onto a Bitcoin accepting linux host in the future. I don't have the time or inclination currently to continue with any (software) developments or start a new thread, I could be the one to do what needs to be done, but I'm mostly a network guy, other folks can bring Gapcoin up-do-date, most likely via a soft folk, quicker than I might and/or make a better job of it. 'PttnMe' is/was active in the Gapcoin thread and has recently completed similar work on Riecoin ... - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=446703.msg50911748#msg50911748I have to focus on other projects (old and new) that will deliver me more sustainable income streams. ta-ta (for now) |

I love all CPU only coins,
but my own thoughts as to your question....
Still unsure as to why this community has become so despondent towards a world record breaking Math Alt. coin with such massive potential !?!
First and foremost.....Profit !
I would guess that the vast majority of miners are either doing it as a hobby, or for profit.
So lets look at that....with a decent Ryzen 8c/16t PC using all cores flatout i might see 3-4 blocks a day....hmmm, not much "fun" there.
Dont go down the well, its not about money, and it could double, reble, blah, blah, this coin has been out years, and is a breath away from extinction.
Warp me into an alternate dimension where lets say with my 8c/16t cpu i win all 576 blocks a day, that equates to around £3 a day, minus £2 a day for power, leaves me with £1 a day profit....
So if no-one else mines it, and if i win All blocks, i get £1 a day....so that blows the Profit reason....
Next, suppose i dont care about any of that, and just want to mine for the erm FUN of it....
Well i down load a wallet, tyre setgenerate true blah blah, and hmmm boring, so i download an external mier, and erm, cpuminer -o 127.0xxx.xx blah blah -t (hey i can change number of cores), great but still boring.
So as i have done many times now, try to use the CRT thingy, and holy cr^p, i want to mine not be a mathmetician....after all these years can no-one provide a simple to use, optimsed, customisable miner
So, fine, i spend days writing files i dont understand, then mine with those files, seeing figures i know not what....and guess what..after all that, i still only get 3-4 blocks a day
Oh, and lastly, what about a much more "politically correct answer", - I want to help find the worlds largest PRIME number....sheesh, i'd rather use my cycles to solve cancer Thankyou very much.
So, tongue in cheek, bitchin over....honestly

Make sure all links are easy to spot, work, and oh, are from this century !
Most point to outdated bounties, dead pools, and well...enuff said
Make a POOL!. That way peeps like me can point our dumb little PCs at it, and actually see we are acheiving something, instead of this all of nothing solo crap
Make sure the diff retargets quicker and drops much lower, looking at the global hashrate today, no -ne is mining this coin, and i still can only win 3-4 blocks a day (my record btw is 80 coins or 20 blocks once, i think pigs were also flying that day)
Basically give people a reason to use their hashpower, not waste it
Make a pool, and each time a milestone is hit, make it BIG and BOLD
Let people have a goal, and tell them when they meet it.
Find a way of explain the Chinese whatever it is better, or re-badge it, it a way that my gran understands, and more importantly, make it so peeps can see genuine gains, when they go to all the effort to get the external miners working (cos honestly i have tried them all, several times, on Win and Linux, and can't see ANY benefit)
Like i said at the TOP.
I LOVE cpu coins, and mine pretty much all of them, and although this keeps pulling me back, it also disappoints me every single time, and that hurts me to say, cos i mine some real "sh%" coins.
I honestly wish you good luck rebuilding, and although i can't promise you massive hashpower, i do have a spare Pi3, so hows about a miner for that? Might sound silly, but it reduces the cost of entry to pennies, and is the one device that peeps tend to get working, and then forget about, so whilst not generating them any "profit", 10's of them on, 24/7 might just help set some world records....

I think you should have followed my advice, I am sorry you got lost.
I have a 8 core 1700 and get way more than 3-4 blocks. I told you excactly how to optimize the wallet miner with detailed instructions on the github.com/gapcoin/gapcoin issues tab

On a different note, Iran accuses Israeli Mossad of poisoning/murdering IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano.
On July 18, he died at age-72 after heading the organization since 2009, no cause of death explained.
Since Security Council Resolution 2231 adopted the JCPOA, the IAEA affirmed Iran’s full compliance with its provisions 15 consecutive times.
Last October, in response to Israel’s Netanyahu falsely claiming Iran, seeks nuclear weapons, citing a (nonexistent) “secret atomic warehouse” in his UN General Assembly address, Amano refuted the accusation, saying:
“The agency sends inspectors to sites and locations only when needed. The agency uses all safeguards relevant to information available to it but it does not take (so-called intelligence) at face value.”
I get it Trump sent Nikki Haley to IAEA to force them to join the team against Iran after Trump pulled out of JCPOA. She failed to convince the honorable gentleman from Japan to surrender.
I understand the Bitcoin Cabal would always like to keep their Monopoly going through whatever means, just as the US Federal Reserve has had the sole right to organize the world's capital under the SWIFT system.
Bitcoin is terribly weak for encryption standards. Gapcoin to break through is REQUIRED to move to SHA512 and 64 bit number generator.
Hopefully you can stick around until than. It is really an easy fix but going through all the code is tedious changing all the Uint32 to Uint64 base pairs and sha256 to sha512, but it is simple.

@minerja. Some good points and yes very valid concerns ... My own views ... As an original bitcoiner, I don't think in-wallet CPU mining and the lack of a pool is really of any concern at present, it's actually more decentralized in regards to the network and individual mining participation, just like with original bitcoin, its a feature! 'Profit' is relative to many factors ... Being present on three or more exchanges would be useful along with another block explorer. I won't now consider starting a new thread until that happens, at the very least. I don't even see much development continuing until that happens, although this has become a somewhat chicken and egg situation in this regard - exchanges won't list without development (or fees) and new developers (or miners) won't seemingly participate without incentive or 'profit' potential. Gapcoin Club's nodes and website already cost me $50+ a month without including my own time and mining resources to help keep this project 'alive', without ongoing return. 'Paying' for the block explorer via donations, hosting a 2nd block explorer and pool would make this even more unviable for myself currently. I won't start a pool until competition demands it i.e. a second pool.I won't start to continue software development or find open source / paid developers / coders until the above happens or a new software release is necessary after Jan. 2020. and/or community interest increases.... I will make an explanation post in this thread and link to it from gapcoin.club to make people more aware of the current situation. I will continue to make private gapcoin 'giveaways' in attempt to garner said community and developer interest further. |

GAP is at freiex, so what it's mainly missing is market depth. https://freiexchange.com/market/GAP/BTCInstead of spending it on some things, I think that even 50$ depth into buying and selling coin (bid/ask orders) would do much better than this. Btw. it's not the only coin cpu mineable without pool. There is also Slimcoin with three-way/hybrid consensus model. |

Linux if not even vauge you should ask questions and do some searches first.
The Desktop layout is similar to Windows OS. Linux main features is a built in easy to use Command Line System.
Left Bottom Trisquel Symbol (Same as Windows OS) Click and go to System and click to open Control Center or Right Click over Control Center and choose add to panel or add to desktop
Organizing the panels is another training module.
Find Display tabs within Control Center and try to manually change the resolution size.
2) Both AMD and Nvidia Cards work on the lowest settings without installing the graphics cards Drivers, so mining Gapcoin does not require the graphics cards Drivers installed. However it will boost hashrate a small amount with the Drivers Installed.
3) Ask questions, but try to learn on your own first.
4) I know Trisquel works, so you saying My Trisquel does not work is not true. Your Trisquel does not work becuase you did not try to cultivate the Trisquel Crystal that was given to your hands.
5) The most serious issue you will ever encounter is the installation of some M.2 drive and Motherboard/CPU combinations seem to not recognize the GRUB bootloader on install for unknown reasons at this time. But to get around this it is required to M.2 drive hop until you get a computer Motherboard/CPU combo that will install the GRUB bootloader and than use it as your installation drive for all Trisquel M.2 OS. Once Trisquel is installed the M.2 drive can be moved to the intended computer with no issues. The easy way to recognize this issue is if the drive tries to format EXT4 on the drive setup. If you have a M.2 drive it will fail to install the GRUB bootloader on install causing install fail. But if the M.2 drive install shows XFS it is good to go and you can install the GRUB boot loader on Trisquel using M.2 drive.
6) Since the Algo is 32bit bottlenecked the biggest performance will come from M.2 Raid instead of focusing your resources building a computer with High end Graphics card it is much wiser building a M.2 Raid into it. However this requires AMD CPU/Motherboard as Intel requires a Raid key which is not good, but Intel you can just use 1 M.2 drive.
Once Gapcoin transitions to a 64 bit Sha512 it will be the other way around where a good GPU and Memory will be the key factor instead of a M.2 Raid.

For example a modest M.2 Raid will boost CPU Hashrate boosting about 5-15% at times. Whereas a Good GPU will boost the CPU hashrate about 5-10% at times, however your won't get extra wins with a better GPU. SSD M.2 raid will get you increase Block wins and will boost the entire network as well to avoid future Blockchain bottlenecks. Much more important in this stage of the blockchain as opposed to focusing on get Pools and GPU mining!
GPU mining would likely ruin the Scientific aspects of this coin for small researches who want to run different more complex schemes which would not be possible if they had to compete with the modern Herd of GPU miners working a low Shift to control the hash-rate.
But if Jonn9 had finished the GPU miner it might be different. No one has stepped up to fill his shoes. So it is the OPEN SEAS WEAVING PATTERN.
Trisquel, CPU, M.2 Raid. I can probably patch Trisquel together for the forseable future but large gaps will need filled with more labor as new Trisquel releases in future years.
