Greetings to all....
I am new to the "bitcoin" world so please forgive me for the simple questions I am about to ask!!
My situation is that I purchased a small amount of Bitcoins and had them transferred to a Bitcoin core wallet
But the wallet hasn't sync yet. Transaction not showing up in my wallet. Balance is $0.... Been 2 days now. What should I do??
Ive read different posts here about a torrent??? Where are they found and how do I use a torrent exactly??
Thanks for your patience with a "new fish"!!!

They will show up when the sync is done.

If you want to see your balance now, type your public address into http://btc.blockr.io/

Just wait til the sync is done. I dont think that you can send any coin until that happens, plus you are just setting yourself up for issues if you dont wait.

where do I find my public address?

All addresses are public. File -> Receiving Addresses. Its the same address you provided when you had your BTC transfered.

can I spend bitcoins before wallet is finished sync?Huh

Nope. Well technically you can (export private key, import into slim client, spend coins) do this, but there is a lot that can go wrong. Its better to wait for the sync.

The torrent is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=145386.0

but it will only work for the largest part of the way. For the last part you might want to add some good (fast, allways online) nodes to your list of peers.
To do this open bitcoin-core as usual Help -> Debug Window, select Console and write
addnode IP add
for each of the IPs in list below.
In the same Window under Network traffic you can see if the node you are currently syncing with provides data at a good rate or not.

Code:
