The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

if this is legit https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=81045.msg910403#msg910403 (the images are posted backwards) is likely that bitcoinica dont know exactly how much money they own me, own you, own anyone, i bet they try to figure out just that looking at logs backups mtgox history etc etc

want to speculate when bitcoinica will goon the market and buy bitcoins ,do it but, imo will be stupid to make that, they should seek a private lender instead of going into the market

Buying 18K BTC wont move the market much, even if they buy 18K in one go. Right now it will bump from 5.13 to just under 5.2.

That would be enough to start a small rally, because the resistance above 5.2 is a little better.

They should have off-site backups. Although zhoutong's wording in [Emergency ANN] does perhaps suggest otherwise.

In any case, they could have bought most - or all of the coins already.

You figure they know someone who has 18k on hand who doesn't want to keep 18k on hand?

I'm not saying no one will do a private 18k sale, but that sort of person will probably be passing that demand right back into markets you can see.

They should have off-site backups.
the server named emergency-backup with 0 days old does worry me

I noticed. This could mean:
  • Panic move by zhou?
  • Hacker made it prior to taking the screenshot?
  • They lost everything.
  • Something else.

Good luck getting any real honest answers out of bitcoinica. It all started to reek long ago, only people getting hurt is those who trusted in their inept abilities to maintain secure.

There was an 8.4k trade not too long ago.

Probably highly irrelevant, but interesting.

I think they said the hotwallet was like 20% of funds..  So they had 80k btc in cold storage, maybe the same amount in usd??..

I'd guess to settle up they need to pay out around a 500k USD plus 100k btc..
