Here's the idea: tie a bitcoin (paper or casascius) to a balloon and send it to space! Ok, actually not space, but very highLooking for sponsors. Moon would be cooler but expensive...

If we really want MOON we could stick to one of many companies who is already selling space travels, or we could build a p2p rocket by ourself... or build a fleet of balloons and conquer all bases (therefore moon will be ours)

cant people be happy that anyone can buy a ticket onboard virgin galactic for bitcoin??
why are all of these "sponsor me" publicity stunts, things that dont really help the community or have any long term impact.
we really need people to stretch their braincells and think more long term rather than the 'get me rich quick scheme' that most idea's end up as

I don't want to get rich. Only to have some fun, sponsored by someone that want a good publicity for btc. Mutual advantage. If early adopters had spent some of their ludicruos amount of purchasing power for publicity when it was $1000, who knows.. who knows if they do it nowdays

It would get picked up by some news sources. Assuming someone told them about it. Might be published as an "interest piece". The general public would view it as "That Bitcoin thing, must be something interesting about it. People seem to be doing strange/odd things related to it". But that's about it. Might spur mild curiosity in some. Others - it will add to the previously planted seeds by watering them a little more. If thats the goal then by all means - have at it. -B-

Bitcoin has already been in space for a while now. This secret NSA sponsored space mission just returned to Earth. Apparently the cargo was a huge bunch of graphics cards bitcoin mining in zero gravity using solar energy. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-29669205

Mars would be even cooler than moon... at a cost of roughly 6 billion usd , it would require the entire btc marketcap to be accomplished, but it would be a main advance for humanity...

Why you think would they do this? Is there any explanation, how zero gravity would impact on mining? You do understand that getting 1g to zero gravity cost a lot of energy.

I will sponsor the purchase of one helium balloon with a string. You can print the paper wallet yourself.
So....how much? .01 mBTC?

A good balloon, depending on the max high and transportable weight, cost considerably more, and I would need at last 1 for backup. I would need also at least 1 gopro and 1 GPS. I am not looking for charity, and i've never done something like this. I have a very serious unrelated work who takes most of my time, but I can invest some energy in this project for the lulz and 'cos I fell a little hypomanic and love btc. I could had choose to invest my money, but i've lost considerable amount of money and time on btc during the last year, and i'm afraid my girlfriend won't like that, and even me think that spend a grand by myself to take a balloon to " space" for the lulz and bitcoin glory would be a little unresponsable. So I was asking for sponsorship. But now the vast mayority of you think i'm a beggar, or a scammer. I was out of the forum for some timè I forgot how much this community is fucked up.

I thought about that too, but don't know of a way yet, unless there is something left behind by one of the missions that can be accessed. But that's just it -- The place the bitcoin is stored is in the blockchain. Even if you carved an address on the Moon the only place the actual bitcoin would reside would be IN the blockchain. A true demo of Bitcoin would utilize its technology, not couch itself in outdated metaphors like physical presence. -C.

But, IF you could tansfer a wallett and a btc and hopefully the entire blockchain on an abandoned hard drive on moon, won't it be super -cool? And wonderful publicity. And a good backup, also. More than that, if coins are old u won'T need the entire blockchain http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_artificial_objects_on_the_Moon
