So I've been mining with my single 6850 for months now. I finally got a 5770 in the mail and hook it up to the 2nd 12v rail and I have both of them mine for awhile. All is fine, no problems. Then I restart my computer and start up my miner again... and my power supply starts producing a loud annoying coil whine. After a few seconds of mining my display resets then memory errors pop up and then my computer bluescreens. I can still use the computer fine, but when I do anything resource intensive it whines. If the whine is strong/loud enough my computer crashes.

I removed the 5770 and tried only using the 6850. I started my miner and there is the coil whine again, although not as loud and my computer doesn't crash. I'm really out of ideas. If I RMA it I'll be out of a computer for a few weeks, and I need the computer. Should I just stop mining and gaming and such for a few weeks and save up for a new power supply, or does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Coil whine is fairly common with any PSU.  It varies upon the user(s) and their optical spectrum of hearing at certain frequencies.

Also, that PSU is junk, just saying.  It's nothing but a glorified 400W POS.

Fully aware its junk. And the coil whine is very loud, loud enough to be heard in another room, it shouldn't be that loud.
The PSU was just because I was short on money, I planned on upgrading it once I had enough. I still figured it could at least power a 6850 and a 5770, I guess I was wrong. Now it screams at me when only using my 6850, but this is new. I have been for months and it never did this. Now I introduce a 5770 and after a few hours its stuck permanently, removing the 5770 doesn't stop it.

Just one of the many things that can happen when you ask a crappy unit to pull close to it's "rated" wattage. Just be thankful it didn't catch fire.

A component has been stressed and is now vibrating, I don't think it's worth the danger of opening it up and trying to secure the rogue part(s). Best to get a better PSU.
