In reading Adrianne Jeffries (who covers Bitcoin pretty regularly)'s latest ... she and fellow journalists point out how the Venture Capital funding industry is overwhelmingly male.

Here's a 70-page slideshow.  Pick any slide, they almost almost all look identical:

Bitcoin has to some degree the same level of "male-ness", in nearly every aspect.  Is there a single woman in the list of contributors at Bitcoin.org?
 - http://bitcoin.org/about.html   (And no, genjix offering to go on a date in drag doesn't count: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2604.0 )

Is there a single asset on GLBSE where a woman is the issuer?

Are there any bitcoin startups led by a woman (err., ... I guess there is, a stripper for bitcoins service: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=75114.0 )

There is progress.  Adrianne is ... a woman, interested in Bitcoin ever since starting to cover it just over a year ago.    Morgan E. Peck is a science and tech writer and she just wrote the Bitcoin article in IEEE Spectrum:

There is a low barrier to entry for GLBSE making it even more valuable for those looking to raise funds for a business and have been frustrated with conventional methods -- a situation that many woman-owned businesses find themselves in.

But maybe I'm not familiar enough with all the asset issues.  Are there any assets on GLBSE where a woman is the issuer?

IMO Bitcoin doesn't care about users gender and neither should we.

I couldn't agree more.

I imagine all bitcoin users as women.

Introducing constraints to the economy only serves to limit what can be economical.

I'd imagine females are pressured into not disclosing their sex. By my experience, anyone proclaiming to be a woman (assuming no additional relevant info, and not assuming the person claiming to be a woman is actually a woman) has a 40-80% chance of being a scammer. It's an immediate red flag, not because I hate women or think they're incompetent, but because I immediately associate cleavage with scams.

Mousepotato's the only female I'm aware of doing significant transactions on the forum and not scamming folks out of money. AFAIK, every lender is male, and every user who I've done business with is male.

ETA: Oh, and the strippers.

Not only that, but any seen around here tend to get mobbed by geeks that need a life, leading topics off topic as a result, and getting in the way of business happenings and distracting from things getting done.

Usually it goes something like this:

She: Hey, I have something for sale/I want to learn about something specific/etc etc
Forum: blah blah blah
She: <accidentally indicates gender, somehow>
Forum: zomg a girl on the internets realz?
She: ... <tries to stay on topic>
Forum: <thread is now permanently damaged, no recovery possible>

Really it ought to be:

She: Hey, I have something for sale/I want to learn about something specific/etc etc
Forum: blah blah blah
She: <accidentally indicates gender, somehow>
Forum: <nothing happens. topic continues as normal>
NB: If it's a new or unknown user, a heightened sense of security awareness is appropriate, as usual. No need to yell scammer, but ask questions that scammers don't like you asking them: Will you escrow, will you send first, etc.

Give me some time.  Once I build up enough rep and trust, I'm gonna hit up the Lending section Tongue

Could not agree more. There is obviously little to no interest for Bitcoin or even the GLBSE by women because it intersects with traditionally male-dominated areas of geekiness and finance.

What could we possibly do about it if they simply are not interested?

Don't forget Satoshi. She didn't make a fuss about this, because she didn't want to be treated differently.

Like Andrew Bitcoiner said, "Bitcoin doesn't care about users gender and neither should we".

I don't know where I have seen this before but some studied I have seen shows that women are in general risk averse in investing, driving, etc, then males and if the theory extrapolates into the tech field they tend to get involved way past the early adopter phase of an industry or product.
Correct. Evolutionary, this is because men who went hunting had to be the risk takers. Also, men are more expendable than women for having offspring. Important is also that they could not afford to be "radical" because they could not risk being outcasts as they needed to raise children.

Same thing is seen today, though I think there is also a large societal aspect. Typically, it’s women who seek approval and afraid to stand alone in something unproven while men are more likely to not give a shit about the opinions of others.

As a result, the group is more "streamlined" and uniform than men. There are fewer anomalies, for example extremely intelligent or extremely stupid ones.

If I remember correctly, there was one porn peddling old hooker and one (Chinese?) bitch with some serious daddy issues, running some type of prostitution racket.
I haven't seen those 2 perverts for a long time.

You damn feminist instigators, why is it even important, what dangles (or not), betweens the legs of a business owner? Why is it constantly made into something important? IT IS NOT! I do not give a flying fuck, if business owner is man or a women if they get the job done.

Do women deserve a special treatment or respect in business just because they are women? No, they do not!
What's next? We have to respect some carrot fucking veegan pederast business owner because he is a homosexual? Fuck this political "correctness" and assholes who keep pushing this feminist/pervert loving crap.
BTW, running most businesses is not a "freedom", it's a damn slavery. I think feminist are bankrolled by big control freak corporations (or are they still called governments?) to make sure all men and women are equal, slaving away while thinking they are free. Reality check - you are not free nor are you equal!

Man, make more money than your lovely wife so she can stay home, enjoy the life and take care of your kids. Working sucks, but someone has to do it. Wink
