Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Here's my guess, in a week we'll probably look back at this dump as setting the direction of the response to the block halving.
Could be. But the dump happened around the same time as a glitch at Kitco made it seem like gold and silver had dropped by something like 2+%.  I think somebody sold those BTC to try and buy that dip. If so, bet they're pissed it was was just a fake flash crash.  |
