Do we really need a 24*7 exchange? Unlike other old-world exchanges, they don't even have time to do proper offline upgrade.

They are a victim of their own success.
Or maybe they are spending all the money they are making on trade fees on hookers and blow instead of upgrading their infrastructure. I think they just routinely underestimate the growth. The probably dont really have millions in cash to spend on new infrastructure- despite that being required at this point. |

not working for me - price is fix, no change since it went to shit 1hour ago (or whenever).
I guess I had a pretty bad timing when I sent my coins to mtgox. Didn't show up on balance ..

I feel sorry for them. It's pretty tricky. from where they surely were before '13, it's not like you can just order up a couple of dozen Dells and plug them in and problem solved. I think if it was me, I'd be emailing Google or Amazon pictures of large piles of cash to send some guys out on the fastest flight out to help.
Either way, I'm sure they're crying all the way to the bank. Oh wait...

Why should a system need to be offline in order to upgrade? That's what redundant servers and transparent failover are for. They should have made more than enough money to hire somebody to build the right kind of infrastructure by now. |

And I don't know how much the crazy volatility of bitcoin price has to do with the absence of a daily limit. |
