Oh man XPY was set to be Bitcoin 2.0 and now look at it.  It was so promising from the get go and the innovation from Garza had made Paycoin great. I guess greed got the better of him.

Re: United States v. Homero Joshua Garza
Case Number 3:17cr____

Dear Robert (..):

The enclosed information is provided by the United States Department of Justice Victim
Notification System (VNS). I am contacting you because you were identified as a victim or potential
victim during the investigation of the above criminal case.

We are currently negotiating an agreement with defendant Homero Joshua Garza to enter a plea
of guilty to one count of wire fraud. A plea would result in a final resolution of this criminal matter
without the necessity of going to trial. A plea hearing is scheduled in this case for June 1, 2017 at
11:00 am before Magistrate Judge Donna Martinez at the federal courthouse located at 450 Main St.,
Hartford, CT. You are welcome to attend this proceeding, but are under no obligation to be present.

Through the Victim Notification System (VNS) we will continue to provide you with updated
scheduling and event information as the case proceeds through the criminal justice system. You may
obtain current information about this case on the VNS website at https://www.notify.usdoj.gov or from
the VNS Call Center at 1-866-DOJ-4YOU (1-866-365-4968) (TDD/TTY: 1-866-228-4619)
(International: 1-502-213-2767). In addition, you may use the Call Center or Internet to update your
contact information and/or change your decision about participation in the notification program.

The email address VNS currently has for you is email@domain.tld. If this address is correct
and you have not received an email from VNS within four days of the date of this letter, please check your
junk/spam folder and accept emails from fedemail@vns.usdoj.gov. If the email address provided above is
incorrect, please update the email address by accessing the VNS Web site. This email address has not been
verified in VNS and future emails will not contain details about the nature of the notification. To receive
subsequent emails with the full text of the notification you must verify this email address by accessing the
VNS Internet web page using the login information provided above.

Once you have verified/updated your email address, most, if not all, future notifications will be
provided by email and not by letter. If you do not verify your email address, VNS will continue (in
most cases) to send letter and email notifications. However, when an email address is not verified,
future emails will not contain details about the nature of the notification. In order to continue to receive
notifications, it is your responsibility to keep your contact information current.

You will use your Victim Identification Number (VIN) '000000' and Personal Identification
Number (PIN) ‘0000' anytime you contact the Call Center and the first time you log into VNS on the
website. If you are receiving notifications with multiple victim ID/PIN codes please contact the VNS
Call Center. In addition, the first time you access the VNS website, you will be prompted to enter your
last name (or business name) as currently contained in VNS. The name you should enter is (..).

Remember, VNS is an automated system and cannot answer questions. If you have other
questions which involve this matter, please contact this office at the number listed above and ask for
our victim witness coordinator. Similarly, if you are aware of other victims who would like to receive
this notification, please have them reach out to our office at the above number.

Sincerely,

/s/John T. Pierpont, Jr.

Thanks - is the plea to the sec for all the federal charges though? Still seems fairly light. Not that they will get their 10m from him. he'll quietly saunter off to Venezuela after his 2 year term and go back to scamming with all his pilfered paper wallets he has probably stashed from him selling all the paycorns off crypty. Btw, where is paul vernon, still on the run? Grin

No Plea to SEC because SEC is a civil suit -- they can only slap on fines.  That case has not been resolved yet, but owing $10M can't be fun.

1 count can be up to 20 years.

Victims should be sure to mention that he actually committed many, many instances of wire fraud and that he should serve major time.

You gotta feel sorry for Joshua Garza after you read what one dude got for committing a similar, yet worst crime.

Google the following to see who ...

Quote
The 23 counts in the indictment carry a maximum statutory penalty of 460 years in federal prison and fines of up to $8.75 million.

... received the following sentence for the above offense: Three years probation and a hundred-dollar fine, with the probation extended for two years because he was a very, very bad boy here in the crypto space.

Meanwhile, a family was terrorized by a SWAT team at their Texas home because ... wait for it ... the patriarch of the family traded bitcoins as a hobby.

I was and I still am very skeptical about whether the sentencing will be tough at all.  A lot has changed since Obama took office back in 2009.  I believe the penalties are a lot tougher for white collar crime.  I believe Bernie Madoff ruined it for everyone.

I can't say whether I will be able to go for sure, but the last time I was in a federal court house they took my cell phone and locked it up.  Attorneys still had theirs.  I'm thinking a covert recording device may be the best available but still against the rules.   Most federal court rooms forbid any electronic recording devices but some are allowing them.  Not sure about this specific judge/courtroom.

Looks like u can order a recording for a fee. Not sure though.  May just be a court reporter transcript.

it would be precious to see and record the Felon confessing, however the SENTENCING will be the really fun part, when victims get to speak.  I hear there are some pretty high-profile victims in the mix!

Can you enlighten us?  Got me curious who these big shots are that got sucked into this.  I was skeptical and optimistic at the same time.  I knew it was turning south and got out with most of my funds invested.  I considered it all a gamble from day 1 though.

What is funny is if he simply invested the money in bitcoin and never mined anything he would have more than tripled the investors money and would have been able to easily pay 5-10% gains.

To give him the benefit of the doubt I don't think he ever said who got taken exactly.  It does seem odd that he has a nonchalant attitude about it.

Didn't Matlack fleece his flock?

I think he talked his church into "investing" as well & they lost it all.

There was speculation about that but it was based solely on his employment in a church and the perception that he wouldn't have risked that much of his own money. There was no proof either way, at least I'm not aware of it.

As for recording in a courtroom - please don't... Take notes on paper and you'll live long enough to share the story.
