To use the code, you have to be subscribed to their email newsletters, I think.

I believe that is true,

I am subscribed and have been for years, I get at least 2 e-mails a day from them plus the "special" discount mails whenever I buy from them (LOL)   

I just never had a code not work, unless I mistyped it, sadly not the case here.

If I make the final decision to buy, i will just call them and see whats up, and post answer here.

Not for that specific 7970, but I've seen them for $405 a couple months ago at NewEgg.

$405 .. Sorry I missed out on it, dam story of my life, dollar short and a week late...LOL

This was the cheapest I had seen it, and even used at eBay is not much better right now, the ones below that price are still day(s) from finish and the cheapest completed sale lately on a used 7970 was $380 most seem in the $400-$450 range.

Well, I guess I will research a little more deeply next time

When I did a listing yesterday mourning according to lowest price, the Diamond came up the cheapest (with the extra 5% discount and rebate + free shipping)

They may have put the Power color on sale afterwards, the Diamond is still a bit cheaper ($426.49) vs ($429.99) though a bit more trouble with the rebate.

I had always thought Diamond was a good card (though I admit it has been a long time since I owned one) and power color was one of the "cheaper" brands.

Anyway, I will be more careful in the future about posting deals in these forums

Diamond isn't great on quality control.  I'd rather spend the extra 30$, incase I need the customer support, and for a generally better quality card.
