For Research use CoinMarketcap to see pricing & total supply as some are a few cents with only a million coins and some others only a few satochi but billions of coins.
Plus read their discussion forms, to see the coin's general mood and direction.
You will also want to determine what amount of coins is needed per block to stake as fast as possible to gleam the effect of compound interest.

What are some of the issues with a private blockchains? 

Is this a serious question?  Private chains/federated chains = counterparty risk, central point of failure, no anti-fragile attributes, no reason for anyone to keep the system up and running if it's no longer profitable or beneficial to the federated administrator.  The list goes on?  The fact that the "trusted parties" can cease functionality of the chain at will makes it impossible to use as a real store of value unless the counterparty is maybe the government and you're already forced or held hostage to "trust" them.  But those systems already exist...it's called central banker IOU notes.
Using the blockchain to recreate legacy financial systems is a Rube Goldberg machine.

NEW Wallet: Install Instructions
Make a BTCtalkcoin folder under C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\
Then Extract and copy the files from BTCtalkBlockchainSnapShot.rar into
C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\BTCtalkcoin
Then open BTCtalkcoin and it will start syncing the BlockChain from the last snapshot.   

ACTIVE Wallet:Install Instructions , (Be sure to have a backup of your Wallet.dat 1st)
Make sure BTCtalkcoin is closed
Go under c:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\BTCtalkcoin (for Windows) or in the BTCtalkcoin data folder for other OSes
Then Delete 5  files :  .lock & blk0001.dat & blkindex.dat & debug.log & db.log
Then Delete 1 folder named : database
Then Extract and copy the files from BTCtalkcoinBlockchainSnapshot into
C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\BTCtalkcoin\
(If it asks to overwrite peers.dat , just reply no)
Then open BTCtalkcoin and it will start syncing the BlockChain from the last snapshot.

Once your BTCtalkcoin Wallet is completely Synced.
Check your Balance, if the Balance is incorrect.
Click on Help, click Debug Window, click Console,
type in repairwallet and hit enter, then check your Balance
If Balance is still not correct.
Then From a Command Prompt run BTCtalkcoin-qt.exe -rescan 
will take a little while but should correct your balance info.

My Take on the following:
Intrinsic Value

The intrinsic value is the actual value of a company or an asset based on an underlying perception of its true value including all aspects of the business, in terms of both tangible and intangible factors.
This value may or may not be the same as the current market value.

PoS Coin's Ability to Reproduce more of it's own kind does give it an intrinsic value, that a sterile coin or token does not have.

And for the PoW comparison
The ASICS holds the Intrinsic Value not the coins they produce.
Since they can be used to reproduce other PoW coins of the same algo.
Problem, their value drops due to increasing difficulty which kills their profit potential.
At most switching to newer PoW coins with the same algo is the only real way to get more than a year's use of an ASICS .

PoW is not secure because the PoW 51% attack tactic currently has no Defense.
