I noticed that 2 long-term and decent users are missing.
1) DeathAndTaxes is inactive since 7 October while his last post is from 29 August;
2) BurtW is inactive since 14 October while his last post is from 11 October.

Both users were pretty active and being offline for 1 month seems to me a bit strange. Anyone knows anything?

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

If I'm not too imposing with this question: What was the issue?

There was another thread mentioned both DeathAndTaxes and DannyHamilton were gone at the same period, and suggested they were the same person lol.

Health issues bogging down my real-life work, had to put in 100% after recovery to catch up. I'm fairly in sync now though, thanks for the concern. Smiley

Yah... the following post will tell u more about this...

If nothing else the next year is going to be interesting.  I tendered my letter of resignation last Friday.  Since August of last year I along with my business partner and investors have build Tangible Cryptography, LLC from an idea to an enterprise executing almost a million dollars a week in transactions.  To date we have done this without any full time staff, just a lot of out of the box thinking and clever back end automation.  It is time to make a leap of faith so starting in April I will be working full time for the company I helped build.   I have lots of exciting ideas to bring to the Bitcoin community and soon Tangible Cryptography will have both the funding and resources to make them happen.  When I first read Satoshi's paper back in 2011 I never imagined that the next chapter of my career would be connected to Bitcoin.  It has been an exciting couple years and I am confident that there are only bigger and better opportunities over the horizon.

Would be good if we could find out if the site was real or not Tongue I am sure a few members of the bitcoin community could get around the idea of helping out.

Yep It would be really good , for me I don't think that a 8 years old little girl talks like that but in the same time the website contains some personal pictures of the girl with her father ... so that makes me asks my self , unless he posted those pictures in Social media websites then I guess that website is so real .

We need to find out if the website is real, I'm sure that if it is real, members from the community would donate to him. Could someone reverse search those pictures on google to see if they were posted on social media? Because if they weren't, the website could be real.

Maybe someone can try contacting BurtW himself and ask? He ran a consulting company DeadlineSpecialists.com for over a decade. The site is now down but there still are cached pages with his phone number.

I wouldn't be surprised if BurtW's absence is related to this. However it would not explain D&T's absence. Even stranger is the fact that BurtW as logged in since his arrest but did not make any posts

I don't get it. Why would we contribute to someone who a) did illegal things, b) made money from those illegal things, c) is now being punished for those illegal things, am I missing something?

I don't know the details of it, but IIRC he borrowed some bitcoin from another user with his "Phinnaeus Gage" account acting as collateral.

Oh, is the loan still in progress? I assume so as none of the accounts have negative trust on them for not repaying the loan.

I read somewhere that gleb was his brother, but why did he use another account?
Edit:didn't see the above posts. Well I hope to see him pay back. What was the of the loan? He hasn't been back yet so I suppose it's large.

It wasn't that large. In fact, I just made a payment and sent him a PM stating such prior to the recent news being released. BTW, it was my idea to offer up PG as collateral to protect his interest, for I'm pretty sure none would've been needed because none was discussed prior to my offer.

The www.burtw.com web site is real.  It was put up by my wife (JeanW on here now).  To answer some questions posted above:  I traded on localbitcoins.com.  The prosecutor in the case claims I needed a business money transmittal license to do that.  Instead of just notifying me that they though I might need a license they have charged me with a felony which could mean up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Because I had to hire TWO law firms, one for the criminal case and another one for the civil forfeiture case, so far, defending myself against the charge of not having a license in order to trade on localbitcoins has cost me almost $200,000.  This is a large chunk of our retirement fund and our daughters college fund.  This does not count the property (Bitcoins, cash, etc.) I may have to forfeit in civil forfeiture.

My family could really use your help so if you are in a giving mood please donate Bitcoins or that fiat stuff at www.BurtW.com

A bit more information can be found there.

Thanks!

PS:  http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/30/politics/federal-agents-charged-with-stealing-bitcoin/index.html

Made me laugh and I have not laughed for a long time.

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

I don't get it. Why would we contribute to someone who a) did illegal things, b) made money from those illegal things, c) is now being punished for those illegal things, am I missing something?

Because the law is wrong and completely stupid?

Yeah after reading some more on what they're claiming, it does seem a bit stupid. There's no precedence, they're almost making it up and trying to backdate it.

Not fair.  I found dogie's most recent post very encouraging:

The very best video we have found to explain the whole civil asset forfeiture happening to us to our friends and family.  Most of them have the hardest time getting past "there is no way that is even possible here in the U. S. of A." thinking.  In fact some of my relatives have trashed our emails because they just can't believe civil asset forfeitures are real.  Please watch it, laugh and weep:

The government, judiciary, and police are a criminal mafia of the worst kind. The Gambino Family had more honor than these scum. Everyone needs to get into crypto and stop paying taxes. Suck the life out of these parasites.

Are you talking about yourself here? Like, a) claiming VAT for stuff you got for free, & b) ripping miners off for VAT.....?

I could probably go through the whole alphabet with things that you've been up to....... Cheesy

Have you been a victim of dogie insults, neg-rep'd for no reason or been falsely accused by him? If so, air your experiences here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=905210.0

I noticed that 2 long-term and decent users are missing.
1) DeathAndTaxes is inactive since 7 October while his last post is from 29 August;
2) BurtW is inactive since 14 October while his last post is from 11 October.

Both users were pretty active and being offline for 1 month seems to me a bit strange. Anyone knows anything?
Just like other people answers, maybe its their real life problems dragged them off from this forum... Or maybe they got interested at another forum and moved there Undecided
But my prediction is their real life Smiley

Since you are a noob I will go easy on you:  posting in a thread that you have not actually read makes it look like you are just posting to get your post count up or to make money through your signature.  Thanks for the concern for my well being though.  If you really care you can read all about it at www.burtw.com and www.jmwagner.com

WTF? Did you read Grand_Voyageur's and BurtW's post right above yours? They are two different persons and both of them are back already.
Please stop making wild guess when you have no idea about the problem.

I am back:

Federal Criminal Case Against Burt Wagner Dismissed

at the Request of the Department of Justice

July13, 2015

I am very excited to announce that the criminal case against my client Burt Wagner was dismissed today. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado filed a motion earlier today requesting that the U.S. District Court Judge handling the case, the Honorable William J. Martinez, dismiss the case against Mr. Wagner. Judge Martinez subsequently issued an order dismissing it.

On October 7, 2014, Mr. Wagner was charged in a single-count indictment with violating 18 U.S.C. § 1960 (operation of unlicensed money transmitting business) in connection with his purchases and sales of bitcoins. Mr. Wagner entered a plea of not guilty. Although Mr. Wagner and I both wish he had never been charged, we appreciate the U.S. Attorney's Office ultimately doing the right thing and dismissing the criminal case against him.

With this dismissal, Mr. Wagner can begin the process of resuming his regular life. It has been a true privilege to represent Mr. Wagner. I could not be happier for him and his family.
