OgNasty - just a quick question. What's some differences between your pool and (For instance) BTC Guild? Are the payouts different?

I have a few TH I can toss over at your folks, but I'm not sure what the difference is in pools (I'm not an experienced miner and obviously I didn't get in NastyFans at the ground level).

Thanks!

OgNasty - just a quick question. What's some differences between your pool and (For instance) BTC Guild? Are the payouts different?

The main difference is NastyPool runs on the p2pool network, so it helps decentralize the Bitcoin network. Another difference would be that we have our own NastyPoP payout method. It lowers variance and provides weekly payouts as well as having 250 seats added to the NastyPoP earnings to provide >100% payouts for miners. We also charge no fees and have a lottery in development. You earn lotto tickets for accepted p2pool shares and will one day be able to sell them or enter them into the lottery (you can earn tickets now, but the lottery is not live yet).

So why is NastyPool better than BTC Guild?

  • No Fees
  • Exclusive Payout Method
  • >100% Payouts
  • Bonus Lottery

Well I didn't want to outright ask why it's "Better" Smiley Just wondering how it's different. Well hell, that sounds pretty good to me. I'll do some research and see about getting on board. I don't have much mining power, but that will change in the months to come.

Thanks for the reply.

IMPORTANT information for NastyPool miners using NastyPoP payout method!

I work to improve performance for NastyPool. If you are using NastyPoP payout method there are some changes now! If you are using P2Pool payout method there are no changes.

For miners using NastyPoP payout method:
  • change from port 9332 to port 3334
  • remove the +N part of your username (if you use that)
  • make sure your username ends with -PoP

If your miners are donating to the fanclub (NastyMining, Squirrel Dearing, Bees Brothers, punkboy15) then these changes apply to you as well. With this change I fix support for spaces in the username. So Squirrel and Bees can show their full name without using underscore now.

NastyPoP will continue to work on the old port for now. But I will eventually turn it off because it negatively affects efficiency for all miners. So please make these simple changes as soon as convenient.

For fans interested in some details the NastyPoP payout method now uses ckpool as a P2Pool frontend. After you switch to port 3334 you will notice a dramatic decrease in rejects and a improvement in detected hashrate.

If some of this is not clear or you have any questions then please PM me or post here.

That's very cool. I hope you have checked out a stable ckpool point on git though since every so often there are unstable periods in the development cycle.

Hey

Just wondering since I added -PoP to my username, I'm unable to see the hashrate on the website since I cant sign a message with address and -PoP at the end. Any idea ?

Edit: Got it

Signing your address is to credit your P2Pool shares and doesn't relate to viewing stats.  You can view anyone's stats in the mining tab of your nastyfans.org account, or alternatively you can view everyone's charts here: https://nastyfans.org/miners/ or the ticker you mentioned above for stats on -PoP miners.

Ah, I see what you're talking about.  It looks like a bug introduced by the switch to a ckpool frontend since I don't think it was there before.  I'm sure nonnakip will resolve it.  I wouldn't be worried.  Thanks for reporting!

I hope you have checked out a stable ckpool point on git though since every so often there are unstable periods in the development cycle.

On nastyfans.org/nastypool (at bottom) it shows what version I use and also the minor patch needed to support NastyPoP.

I monitor the commits and try to choose a good "version". I will need to spend more time on this. The testing phase was very positive. But today we had 17 minutes of downtime as ckpool freaked out.

It started with "Client fd N disconnected - recv fail with bufofs 0 ret 0 errno 0" messages and escalated to "Client fd -1 disconnected - select fail with bufofs 0 ret -1 errno 0" messages.

I see your latest git commits touch some of this.

Is there a place for open discussions about ckpool development?

I confirm the problem. The member pages of nastyfans.org are not showing hashrate and share information from ckpool correctly. This is only a display problem. All hashes and share are tracked correctly by core system. I will fix display problem as soon as convenient.

Cool!

I moved some hashes to Nastypool after having ISP-caused slowdown issues last week - for a few days I had to manually restart BTC and my P2pool node frequently on the PC but with Nastypool and pools in general, the PC is usually not a possible point of failure. If the router and miners are OK, then mining still works even if the PC is down.

I'm liking Nastypool so far.

Nice to hear. Suggestions are welcome at all times. I maybe not get to them immediately but I keep a list.

NastyPool is still young. We identify some issues relating to P2Pool. The use of CKPool is part of many steps we are taking to improve running public P2Pool nodes. We still have more steps to take.

I spent much time trying to debug problems NastyPool is having with CKPool frontend. I think CKPool will provide a excellent frontend for P2Pool. But we can not use it for NastyPool until some issues are resolved.

The last few days as a NastyPoP miner were rocky as I try to resolve issues. I finally decide to pull CKPool for now. I installed our P2Pool proxy on port 3334. That means there is no difference between 9332 and 3334. I ask NastyPoP miners to stay on 3334. After CKPool issues are resolved I will install CKPool frontend on 3334 again.

I donated 0.25 BTC to NastyPoP account to compensate for caused mining problems. Thank you to the NastyPoP miners for your support during initial phases of NastyPoP.

Just out of curiosity, is the NastyPool instructions on the 'Mining' page old?  Don't we have to add -PoP to the end of our address (and use port 3334)?

This is what I'm referring to:

NastyPool instructions
To mine on NastyPool set your miner to nastyfans.org port 9332. Use your Bitcoin address as the username. Use anything you want as the password (it is ignored). You maybe also set parameters that are good for P2Pool. Here is a sample command line for cgminer:

cgminer --url nastyfans.org:9332 --userpass 1NastyFRkeUTmMdbMmzggDVTQA6r3ibUoX:nopass -Q 0

Make sure you use your Bitcoin address as the username.

Ya, nonnakip usually cleans up stuff like this last.  Right now he's working on stabilizing things with the new frontend.

On another topic...  Thanks Squirrel Dearing for hosting our X3!  You can see that Squirrel has the X3 up and running on behalf of NastyFans.
