According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Nah, it's quite useful. It acts as my public OTC address too, so anyone having doubts that I'm the person doing this transaction can simply send the coins to my public address.

Can people please stop posting donation public keys in their forum signatures. They are very annoying and as I suspect, quite pointless. Anyone feel the same?

forum signatures?
people actually read them?

Honestly if you get annoyed by insignificant stuff like wallet addresses in forum signatures this forum might not be the right place for you Smiley

The incredible thing is that he barely arrived and donation addresses already bother him...
Also, the part where he calls them "public keys"... I wonder whose alt is this Tongue

Whats really annoying is when a newbie comes on a forum and tells people they are doing it wrong.

these forums are not aggressive... try reddit sometime. i guess it kinda depends on the community though.

But its kinda standard for anonymous communication. Dont let it bother you that people are able to talk to you without a social filter, take it for what it is...

Why would you want to get rid of donation addresses?

People go to a lot of effort to provide useful information and some of us choose to reward that information and those peoples' time-sharing with a BTC or two. Donation addresses in signatures make it easy to do that anonymously and safely.

Hah... torn into you.  Wait until you are on the receiving end of one of my diatribes.

Besides, turn off forum signatures.  Most peoples signatures are annoying as all hell to begin with, I've turned off signatures a long time ago and certainly don't miss them.

If you're searching these lines for a point, you've probably missed it.  There was never anything there in the first place.

Stop sounding like my ex wife and I might put some coin in your address! Oh but wait I don't know what it is?

This thread has motivated me to add a signature with my bitcoin address in it.
lol! Grin

Well I got a few sensible replies, then everyone went all silly.
I think you might be using the wrong tense in that sentence?

Wooahh, sorry guy/gals, you've just torn right into me. I've heard from external sources this would be an aggressive forum, I didn't realise things were that bad here. I guess I should of stepped in more carefully.  No offense intended.
Also of is not a verb, just fyi. Angry

I get payments from folks sometimes and if they can't contact me they can just look in the forum or wherever else I've displayed an address.
They can also be seen as a statement, most people wouldn't put their bank details out so publicly, and they certainly show that you might be a knowledgable bitcoineer.  Cool

It was a cunning plan to have the funny man be the money fan of the punning clan.
