Just noticed this excellent blog from Erik Voorhees: http://blog.bitinstant.com/blog/2012/11/20/the-full-faith-and-credit-of-wikipedia.html

Very well written. I suggest we all get in touch with Wikipedia, and send them a friendly yet determined request to accept Bitcoins. Personally, I will be more than happy to make a donation (as I greatly appreciate and advocate Wikipedia), but ONLY if they accept Bitcoin. I will no longer support banks, paypal, visa, mastercard, and similar evil institutes.

There's much more I could add, but the above blog just says it all with very compelling arguments. Great job. Let's hope they listen.

It's time for change!

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Bitcoin is more liquid than any other kind of money.  It is easy to accept bitcoin payments without accepting bitcoin as a currency: see Bitpay.  Wikileaks has already gone this way.  That being said, before bitcoins, credit cards, banks and SWIFT made it possible to send money and accept payments from far away.  It is a little much to call them 'evil'.  The way people have been robbed of bitcoins from sites and their own wallet still makes me think that there will always be a role for banks.  Although it is scary what a person can do with their bank account over the Internet and phone.  Nasty things could come that way too. Sad

Coinsbank: Left money in their costodial wallet for my signature.  Then they kept the money.

I fully support this endeavour. If enough people contact them about this, they will eventually have to give in. Make it so that it is less work for them to add a bitpay donation option, than it is to reply to the constant flood of emails and letters asking whether they accept bitcoin yet.

I used to make fun of them for begging but prohibiting ads, but with bitcoins it makes so much more sense - perfect donation vehicle.

It is a little more difficult then flooding them with emails. I think we are beating a dead horse with this.

Please stop beating the dirty old mare. She got some life left in her and would like to spend it with her loved ones.

It wouldn't be a proper forum unless we beat dead horses to dust.
