I am a fan of hot air balloon festivals, yet I have never seen one go 45mph. You're right though, I have no desire to perform high speed tricks a mile away in FPV whatsoever.
You cant do 'tricks' at any distance. The combination of (very) high latency and self stabilizing doesnt let you do any high speed proximity or precision flying whatsoever, or any real acro flying.
I want to be able to take the clearest and least distorted pictures/video while having awesome software features like a GPS flight analyzer, autonomous flight, easy to use options like 'return to home' and a tap to flip button. I disagree about the control though. I land mine in my hand or on my balcony. I could land it in a 2 square foot area with total precision.
Yes, like a steerable balloon. Thats not at all what I meant when I said dynamic. Try flying with any precision at speed. The bebop is like a mars rover, its high tech, Im sure its accurate, great camera's, but it takes ages for your control input to show up on your not-so-live video and no one would claim it handles like a sports car, even if it could drive reasonably fast in straight line.
As stated before, a simple extender and amplified antenna could get a bebop showing clear video at 5 miles away if you wanted, although I can't see how that would be useful.
I suspect those range claims are as exaggerated as the normal flying range. I think you will agree with me that it doesnt really do 2KM without the skycontroller, or even anything close to it.
More over, its using the 2.4 GHz band. If it was bad where I was flying (in the middle of nowhere) I hate to think how it would perform in more urban environments stuffed with 2.4 GHz wifi equipment. I also hate the fact that its not only video thats affected, but control as well. I can live with brief video glitches, but control glitches will make me crash. The way I fly, 'return to home' isnt going to save my drone, its gonna crash it or park it in a tree. My flight controller is perfectly capable of it, but its turned off as I have far more use for a radio controlled beeper to help me locate the quad
lastly I hate the fact that using wifi makes it all but impossible to fly with several drones. At one of my favorite flying places there is one person flying a DJI phantom with wifi 'fpv', and that pretty much grounds everyone else as his wide spectrum link kills everything in his neighborhood. Without him, we can fly an unlimited number of planes and quads line of sight and we've had up to 6 FPV quads and planes in the air simultaneously without trouble. Try flying just 2 bebops in formation.
I'm happy if you like that other drone better, but your bashing of the Bebop isn't exactly a reflection of reality. Reminds me of fandroids that bash iPhones. No worries though. Drones are a great hobby and it's hard to not have fun no matter what you're flying.
I guess Im peeved because its such a missed opportunity. The camera tech really is nice, but using wifi, its not an FPV experience. Unless the 'P' stands for passenger.
