It seems locking threads by some OPSs is used to censore other members with complaints and to stifle freedom of speech.  I think locking of a thread should only be allowed by moderators in case of pointless trolling.

Introducing constraints to the economy only serves to limit what can be economical.
You get merit points when someone likes your post enough to give you some. And for every 2 merit points you receive, you can send 1 merit point to someone else!

How else can Forum Cry-Babies 'Hit-n-Run' without being able to lock a thread after getting in (what they perceive as being) the LAST word ?

Thread Locking shows who squats to pee and who can actually maintain civil communication without meltdowns, resulting in running away.

100% agreed, I see a lot of companies do it after a person points out a flaw in what they are trying to do!

Locking doesn't prevent you from expressing your thoughts. Just create a new thread.

When someone locks a thread because of something I Troll'd said, then I know I have been effective in Trolling expressing my views Wink

Locking doesn't prevent you from expressing your thoughts. Just create a new thread.
In some cases it can potentially be misleading for people who find the first thread via a search and aren't aware of the other thread.

good to see the discussions haven't changed much, if a thread is of significant enough importance a moderator is usually resonable enough to unlock it

If you found that funny or something i said useful i always appreciate spare change

if thats the case I hope a mod unlocks this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=75091.0

Im sure current and future ticket owners would like to be able to post their thoughts and ask questions BEFORE the raffle is over.

I agree, especially when a lot of disinformation is being moved around.  I think it is fine if the OP requests to the moderators to lock the thread for a good reason.  If it is a lame reason then the mods can deny the request.
