Blockchain.info Android wallet

I've tried the Blockchain.info Android wallet. I think it looks good, but I have a question.

Does the Blockchain.info Android wallet depends on the Blockchain.info web service for sending bitcoins, or can it rely the transaction through other bitcoin nodes?

It's not a Bitcoin node, no. Transactions go through blockchain.info.

EDIT: The Android "Bitcoin Wallet" does what you want. Connects to the Bitcoin network, downloads block headers, sends your transactions through other peers, but AFAIK doesn't relay others' transactions (not quite sure about this one) or block data.

I looked at the Android "Bitcoin Wallet", but I prefer the Blockchain.info wallet because of backup and the option to use a web interface.

I understand the incoming transaction must go through blockchain.info because it doesn't download the block headers. But is it impossible for the developer to let the client (without the block headers) rely outgoing transactions through normal bitcoin nodes if blockchain.info is down?

Such a hybrid is possible, but I'm not sure how practical it would be. A better approach could be standardizing the lightweight protocol (there is one, called stratum) and having multiple servers. Electrum client can connect to multiple different servers, but not at the same time (e.g. for verification purposes) and doesn't run on Android.

Currently, you could use the same private keys on both clients and switch to Android Bitcoin Wallet in the case of blockchain.info going down.

yes, Electrum does run on android.
however, you cannot install it from google play.

Wow! Thanks! Whenever I say Electrum doesn't run on a device, it turns out it does. I've been running it on my PC and my N900's, will try it on my Android ASAP.

Is there any chance you could make the Blockchain App available for Android 2.1?

There are a lot of older phones out there that cannot be upgraded higher than 2.1. It would be great to have Blockchain on these phones.

Now I've tried the Windows and Android client of Electrum and I'm going to use it as my daily/mobile wallet

No need for regular backup
It generates the same addresses on all devices I decide to use (autosync)
Lightweight client (no download of blockchain)
It uses Stratum so it doesn't depend on one server being up

Good to know about Electrum, I will try it on my Android device.
So far I used BitcoinSpinner, which in my opinion is the best option available from the Play Store.
