I've been following bitcoins for a while, and to a lesser extent this forum, and I think I understand a lot of the terms and goings ons. The one thing I don't understand though is the question in the subject. It probably won't effect me too much as I don't plan on getting into mining directly, shares maybe if all goes well, but I figured since I'll be in this section for a time might as well ask.
