I think the bitcoin concept is a brilliant solution to a series of very real issues.
I just don't understand how a cyber coinage system can become viable across the world when it is limited to 21 million base units!
Thoughts?

Add eight zeros onto that number. Its base units are eight decimals smaller than what is currently, and seemingly to-you-misleadingly, being referred to as bitcoins.

It is divisible to 8 decimals, so that's actually 2,100,000,000,000,000 base units.

EDIT: got beat to it

To put this in context the US national debt is currently 1,400,000,000,000,000 cents, which is almost as much as 2,100,000,000,000,000

We will have changed from 64 to 128 bit floats for technical reasons LONG before any need to do it for economic reasons.
