This is a good read if you have 10 minutes...

I am perplexed at this individual. The soft hearted side of me wants to help. But where does personal responsibility step in? What would you do?

I had a look, im not going to trawl though pages of a thread to work out what could possibly make you question Libertarian beliefs. Please state exactly what it is that make you doubt a political and economic system based on some woman being jibbed.

Where the hell in Libertarianism do you stand watching someone get into trouble financially and don't help them, in fact you acting is exactly what Libertarianism depends on. Ron Paul said a poor person never was turned away from his surgery when he practiced. Libertarianism is a big picture system doesn't say anything about being some kind of bastard and losing your humanity and compassion???

As far as I can see you've been honest throughout, even charitable by absorbing the client's losses.

I'm not sure why this woman from the Philippines was using your service but, given ntsdm's behaviour, I rather suspect that he recommended your service to her and made many promises about payouts which did not come to fruition.  Rather than admitting his error and offering to cover her losses from his own pocket he's trying to frame you as the villain of the piece.  Most people will shun/block him.  You are not hurting this person; he is hurting himself.

Have you made contact with the client?

Do you have a system of alerts or reminders which prompts a client as profit approaches/hits zero?  If not, you might consider adding such an optional feature, enabled by default, to keep your clients informed.

There's nothing wrong with helping people, that's one of the greatest lies that is spread about both Libertarianism and Anarchism, it's just when you steal other peoples' money at gunpoint to do it that it's wrong which everyone else seems okay with.

Just as long as it's not their money being stolen of course Wink

Maybe it would be better if you went and held someone up with a gun to steal their money to give away to someone else. That would be the moral thing to do.

Why would you question your beliefs? Sounds like ntsdm is an unreasonable fucktard end of story. Maybe somebody made a bad investment, but it doesn't matter if they live in the Philippines or anywhere else. Hell, if you don't have much money you probably shouldn't be investing in BTC unless you're taking full responsibility. I hate to see somebody lose money they can't afford, but we all need to make our own decisions. Maybe he can take up collections on another thread if he wants to be helpful.

People make mistakes due their enviornment and genetics (capaticity to learn and whatnot). Libertarianism is absurd when there isn't even freedom as we know it.

The fact that you are capable of questioning your Libertarian beliefs is actually a good thing because it means you haven't been brainwashed. However, keep in mind the other end of the spectrum where it's okay to be all Robin Hood about it and steal other people's money to give to the poor. I also wish that I could help every person who gets screwed over this way, but I'm not going to hold a gun to other people's heads and force them to give me their money so I can do that.

Everything is absurd if you think of it that way. It is perhaps a valid logical point, but it is not constructive. So what do you suggest, delegation of all (illusory) freedoms to other, bigger and stronger organisations because freedom is an illusion anyway, so better to just get rid of it altogether?

Oppressive systems can still cause suffering whether or not people have true 'free will', and even a deterministic mind can define it's own mistakes, and learning from those mistakes is still possible.

Greed have no boundaries or libertarian ideals ..... It's when you stand on the other side of the gun, when it's shows your true ideals.
