Am I doing something wrong?
It could well be the pool you're in. Ghash was definitely having problems this week. What pool are you using? Have you overclocked or underclocked? (what is your frequency set at) What temperature is the machine reporting? Thanks for replying to me, I've tried Slush's pool and BTCGuild. Frequency is set at 350M and temps are about 38-42 each.

That's default frequency (350). I'm on Slush's pool and everything has been running smoothly there. Those temps seem low, which would be true if you'r e not fully hashing. Hopefully you have all O's in the ASIC Status area? Anything more than that, is above my paygrade. Some of the seasoned guys will need to jump in here.

I've lowered my frequency and seem to be getting lower but more stable hash speeds (for now). Maybe my PSU isn't up to the task although it is 850watt.

I received my S5 today and I'm having trouble getting it to hash.
Sometimes it will hash at around 650 Ghash/s for about 5 minutes and then it will be hashing at under 1 Ghash/s for most of the time.
Am I doing something wrong?
Can you upload a screenshot of the status page please? What is the exact made and model of the PSU you are using?

@opentoe: I have the Corsair SP120's in push/pull, and I can say these are definitely not ideal, as they can only keep temperatures in the low 60's when the S5 is downclocked to about 325, for an ambient temperature of about 16. Note: The Noctua NF-F12 2000, has higher airflow, higher static pressure, at lower rpm's, and lower noise. It is simply a much better fan than the Corsair, period. They do not come cheap though. SP120s benefit from taping the top and bottom of the heatsinks shut, it improves their performance markedly.

So.. I've tried to search this, but I haven't seen anything on it. I have a new S5. It seems to run fine. Every once in awhile, though, maybe every day or two, I will see that it is running at half efficiency.. in the 500-600 GH/s rate. I go into to miner configuration and hit save and apply without changing the settings.. and it goes back to 1150-1200 GH/s. Sometimes it stays for a day or so.. sometimes it stays for an hour. Is this a faulty power supply or a firmware glitch..? Anyone else seeing this happen?
I'm seeing the same thing on my 1 S5. Frustrating. Sometimes a save and apply click in the configuration page works for a full day or two. Sometimes only a half hour.
Hoping there's a firmware fix coming to fix this. In the mean time is there any provision for a periodic reboot built in?
Yes, its a known issue and will get fixed soon TM. Current solutions are timers on the PSU to hard reboot [harsh], or software monitor's like M's to issue soft reboots on hashrate drop. Soft reboots won't always fix it depending on which exact issue you get though. Has this been fixed? The major causes were fixed in the January firmware update but there may be some rarer ones still about. A lot of them are PSU based as every unit has a different definition as to what it considers 12V, which further varies on PSU load. That's not something that can be fixed with firmware updates.

Can you upload a screenshot of the status page please? What is the exact made and model of the PSU you are using? It's an Artic Blue 850W, model no. AD-E850AE-A6 (I think) it actually seems to be working fine at 300M at mostly 900 to 1000 Ghash/s, had it going for a good while. Can't get screenshot right now as it's switched off for the night.

Its more than likely your PSU's fault as its quad rail, and I can't find ONE piece of information on the distribution of its power across those rails.

Almost every time that this issue comes up it can be traced to the PSU used. I had never heard of that one before.

Can someone do me some simple math today please?
I need to know approximate how many kwh per day that an S5 will consume based on a frequency of 375. Assume a constant ambient temp and I get about 1.2 TH. Please let me know how you did this calculation.
This just has to be rough and dirty. I'm exploring designing a small hobby farm.
Thank you.

This is real simple, you don't even need a calculator for it. From what I've seen, an S5 will draw about 650W at the wall at 375M (estimated on the high side). So 0.65KW x 24h = 15.60 KWh Can someone do me some simple math today please?

Sorry for bringing this up, but installing a heatsink on that sensor wouldn't that give false temp readings? Don't you want the real temp reading, or trying to keep the temp sensor cooler is a good thing?

That's exactly correct. The general form is: power consumption (in KW) * time (in hours) = kwh

Don't you want the real temp reading, or trying to keep the temp sensor cooler is a good thing? Yes it would give false temp readings. They wanted to falsify lower temp readings in order to trick the fan into spinning slower (quieter). There is no benefit to the sensor itself.

My numbers say I break even at 5 units and I am estimating expenses on the high side. Basing everything on btc at current price. I may play with my numbers knocking price back to 1btc = $200.
