Hi everyone,

I created a project on BitcoinFunding.com to raise funds to purchase a 3d Printer at https://bitcoinfunding.com/projects/purchase-mendelmax-3d-printer1/271

The main idea is to setup a MendelMax to offer 3D prints to the public for bitcoins.

Everyone that donates will be provided with a free print of the object of their choice shipped to you.

I am asking for 300BTC to go for the fully assembled model but I may be willing to go in up to 100btc and or to get the cheaper unassembled model.

I own bitcoin3dprinter.com and once I get the printer I will put up a website and start a service that will be of great benefit to the bitcoin community at large.

Please let me know any questions about this you might have.  Thanks!

That's a pretty sweet idea. We have a Fortus 250mc, and a 3D printer is an awesome piece of kit. Is the 300BTC the total cost of the printer?

Which printers are you looking at?  I've actually been doing a bit of research to buy one of these myself.

300BTC for a 3D printer sounds pretty good at first, but where they get you is when you go to buy the cartridge refills.

Recommended Exchanges: Binance.com | CelsiusNetwork

These printers don't use cartridges but spools of biodegradable plastic that cost about $50 or so (depending on source) for spools 500-1000 feet long.  I'm totally willing to buy all the plastic needed to make this work and keep it running.

Yeah that was just me trying to be funny.  I should stop before I hurt myself.

why would you buy a 3d printer? they aren't that hard to make, seems like a massive waste to me.

Recently I found out these printers are becoming more accessible to end users. Until a couple weeks ago, I thought they were industrial grade equipment, not something one could have at home.

Does anyone know if there's a "main 3D printing" forum, something like bitcointalk.org for 3D printing? I've googled a little but all forums I found were almost "ghost forums", with just a couple dudes posting something once in a while...
The subject is quite interesting, I'd like to learn more.

Biodegradable plastic?? Why would I want to produce objects that would "rot" spontaneously? I hope you have the option of using durable plastic too...

I'll be waiting for the service.  Might be interested in some custom guitar picks.

I'm afraid you don't understand the properties of the filament, just because it is biodegradable does not mean it rots spontaneously or anytime soon.

What does it mean then?

Btw, do you know where I can learn more about the subject? Besides blogs I've been reading and all, is there a "big 3D printing forum"?

It means that if you put it under enough presure and with the right temperature > 60 degrees Celcius, it will be compostable.

Take a plastic bag with the print "Bio degradable" and put it underground for 2 years, dig it up and you'll find it back in the exact
same state. Repeat the same thing with a 3 m high compost heap and after 2 years you'll find only patches that will dissappear after a few more years.

The material of choice for 3D printing is PLA, look it up. Lots of use in the food industry for packaging and beer cups

And if you want to get into 3D printing, buy a Makerbot or an Ultimaker. Much easier to get started... Check their forums for info

Reprap.org or the #reprap IRC chat on freenode is a great starting point.

The mendelmax is a solid printer but it functions exactly the same as a Prusa Mendel.  The main difference is the frame, it is made from extruded aluminum instead of threaded rod.

Anyone who is going MendelMax should either source it themselves or buy from Trinity Labs (the company the designer is part of).  Also, the MendelMax is not the newest design but it is very popular, there are many others that are newer derivatives.
