Remember the time when newbies had their small section when they could only post there and in the off-topic section?
Why was that removed? I feel as if it helped scammers and other alts stay out for a while. Was it removed of it being unfair to users?

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Pretty much. I'm 50/50 on whether it should return or was a good idea getting rid of it. It never really stopped scammers or spammers as anyone determined would just bide their short time whilst it still punished casual or newcommer users.

My vote would be on a warning akin to the scammer tag. It would be in eye-catching red, displayed next to the names of Newbies in any Marketplace forums.
People have suggested blocking Newbies from the Marketplace section as a whole, but I guess that would be pretty annoying to a lot of people who register here for the first time just to trade.
Newbies would be able to trade, but I think a warning of sorts would be a better deterrent.

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

The problem is we've seen with the trust system that people will abuse the fuck out of it, either to blackmail or to just be dicks to other people, having another one would just increase the problem. Unfortunately, spamming is a difficult problem on the internet that isn't going to go away easily.

Newbie Jail never kept spammers out, it just kept real newbies out of the conversations. People that are making accounts to spam have no problem waiting a few hours before being allowed to spam, they just create accounts in 6 hour shifts/waves. What newbie jail did was discourage the person with the intention of looking around at all of the boards and finding topics that actually interest or apply to them. If someone hears about Bitcoin and wants to come learn more, they should be able to without being penalized. If we penalize real newbies, they might just lose interest and leave.

The solution is people need to become more responsible with their money. Who gives their money to a stranger over the internet anyway? The only true measure of trust has nothing to do with the green numbers next to your name, it has solely to do with self interest. Over the internet you can't judge someone's character. All you can do is count on the fact that people wont scam you if they stand to make more by operating legitimately. Business owners for example (with some exceptions) if they are making 5 BTC per week operating legitimately, chances are they aren't going to scam me out of a few coins. Same thing with some long standing members here who run small businesses, services, escrow services, etc.

The status of someone's account, newbie, legendary, etc it doesn't make a huge amount of difference, besides the fact that accounts have some value here which plays into the self interest equation. Just stop sending Bitcoins to people without using escrow unless you can 100% safely rationalize trusting them with your money. If there is any doubt, escrow.

I think that sort of warning would also be annoying for them not to mention a bit extreme and unfair/unnecessary. Generally people know to use caution when dealing with newb accounts anyway, and if they don't and lose out then it's their own fault. Newbs should only be given 'warning' via negative feedback when they've done something to demonstrate they deserve it and not before.
