Thanks for the input, even though cointube doesn't fit the criteria enough to be included in the OP.
Feel free to submit sites you think qualify as 'free bitcoin sites' to the thread in my sig. as well.

BtcFree seems to be paying out again, but BitCrate seems lately to be out of BTC more often than not.

BitCrate tweeted:

And we're back online. I tell you, bitcoins don't last long around here. Remember to drop by our sponsors!

I saw that less than 2 hrs. after it had been sent and BitCrate was already empty again...   hmm...   Undecided

Once a sender sends you a transaction, how long generally until it shows up in your wallet, assuming it has not been expedited?

I have tried some of these sites but have not seen any coin yet, then again my wallet is still 'updating' so is that the reason possibly is my transaction  has not hit it yet?

Thank you

It can show up pretty quickly sometimes but can take a hour or two at other times.

'When' it is sent is another thing, when you are talking about those free bitcoin sites.
Some seem to send you your free coin right away while others sites may wait to send
many payouts at once to save on transaction fees... some won't show up for a day or
two.

Yes you need to wait until you have caught up before you see some of your most recent transactions in your client.
But while you wait you can use https://blockchain.info and do a search on the address you used in order to see if
a payment has been sent to it yet, and how many confirmations it has etc.

Thank you for the link portnoy.   I will go and check it out to see if any of the payments have been sent yet.

Does anyone know if these "bitcoin givaway sites" are profitable for the ppl that run them?

There seems to be a lot of them around.

As you can see in the list many of them have had to shut down because they couldn't make a go of it. Some seem to operate sporadically since they have limited amounts to give out, it seems, like Bitcrate now that it is under new ownership.  Others use it as a way to promote their site and so it is no doubt seen as an advertising expense.

For example Coinbase is right now giving out the most of any of them, 0.10 BTC where most only give 0.0001 BTC or so, but they seem very happy with the interest and attention their give-away is generating for their site.

Is everybody taking advantage of the promotional give away from Coinbase?

You can use This Link to get your 0.10 BTC for signing up and verifying your account.

Anyone had any problems in getting your 0.10 BTC?

It seems some have had some problems not getting their payout, and the Coinbase people admit they have had to fix some bugs and deal with fake accounts etc., but that they are working to make sure things are working right.

Post here to let us know if you have had any problems.

You just posted this while I was composing my last post here.

Yes I have noticed some issues like that myself. I had my balance go down and then this morning they were able to put it right again but they still seem to be having problems.
Yes please do update us on your situation.
