The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

Lol, I wish wood was an investment as well. Maybe some rare form would be.
It might be that bitcoin would be a good investment right now, but even that is kind of questionable and hard to predict.

I believe in the market. people have been trying to control scams and legislate the hordes of new coins but the market has simply grown tired and disillusioned now, a natural decline. I think the days of 1000% pump coins on marketcap knee jerk pump and dumps are well and truly over. These days the power is with developers who can convince people in an IPO to invest or not. Huge movements after IPOs are all but dead.

It was a fun time but it's healthy it's over.

Auroracoin has gone from $22.22 to $0.02 - 2 cents (I'm not even working that loss in % out).

I think it peaked at $80. I feel sorry for anyone who paid that and held.

How the hell was bitcoin the worst performing asset of 2014 "the best investment"

Among the list, Bitcoin was the crypto currency that lost the less in Dollar value

Actually ProtoShares was a good investment on that list. They got 50% of BitSharesX which made up 80% of the new BitShares at no.4 valued at $40 million. (So $16 million value currently retained there.)

Protoshares also got
- 35% of BitShares MUSIC which just raised $750 000 for 20% in a pre-sale. http://www1.agsexplorer.com/
- 10% of BitShares PLAY not trading yet https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11571.0
- 20% of BitShares DNS which had a $6 million CAP before it was merged into BitShares
http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=qeweF05tT50
- 30% of FOLLOW MY VOTE which has been merged into BitShares
- 10% of Rand Paul Coin still being created
- 33% of initial Sparkle https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?board=80.0
-  7% in the BitSharesX to BitShares merger worth about another $3 million
-  BitShares PTS honoured them 1:1 and is worth $530 000 atm at 41 on CMC

They've been merged into BitShares now at no.4 that will be Daniel Larimer's (Bytemaster) exclusive focus. The merger was a big headache that cost them a lot of value short term, my investment should actually be worth much more imo. They are gearing up for the 1.0 release that will combine a lot of features.

PTS has continued though and is at no 41 on CMC. It's now a no inflation, DPOS crypto-currency that more third parties might drop shares on in future, so you may want to look at that too.
