The safest wallet is Armory. There is no debate on that.

I have been using the offline version sometime now.

Using a non-networked PC (a small netbook will work) and a webcam it can give you 100% security.

If it takes photos if a person tries to login would give you better security but don't make logging-in option using your face because it can be faked with your photo unless you set some additional options such as blinking the eyes x times etc...

   ~~MZ~~

I was saying use the webcam to sign transaction. That way the wallet never has to touch any networked computer and is totally secure, there is no way to compromise it.

Exactly.
Why host your wallet on a VPS when you can put it completely offline and away from hackers?

This sounds like one of the worst wallet securing ideas I've heard in a long time.

Hey there guys,
I recently decided to make a new wallet to secure my funds which are growing.
The wallet is for Bitcoins.
I will not be using them to buy or sell, but just store them and keep it as an investment.
Please suggest something, other than hardware wallets, because I dont want to shell out money on them
The safest one to keep as an investment? DEF paper wallet, otherwise this looks good also 3CC4x1h8vde9YqyDmys3s6CaXcxsZwkYbQ

The only online casino on which i won something. I made 17mBTC from 1mBTC in like 15 minutes.  This is not paid AD!

Haha so true Danny! Maybe his idea was to install Owncloud on a VPS and encrypt the wallet file and store it there. I hope it Cheesy

I don't think that someone suggesting to install plain wallet on vps has any idea about security/encryption.

i wanted to respond but DannyHamilton did it way better than i could
i can only add this
  • Properly created paper wallet
  • Armory offline (requires a computer that is never connected to the internet)
  • Electrum offline (requires a computer that is never connected to the internet)
choose whichever you like and suits your needs. you can visit their official websites and read some reviews on each of them by searching.
for example i chose Electrum because it didn't need to download the whole blockchain so it didn't need that much hard drive space.
also, always keep backups from your wallets, private keys, secret phrase pasword or whatever

I know a lot of people don't trust online services but I've been using Coinbase for a while now and so far I'm very happy, especially now that they have the Vault which allows you to store your BTC offline. The reason that I prefer online storage is that way I always have access to my Bitcoin whatever country I'm in. With a regular wallet it would a hassle having to carry it around with you along with your laptop, not to mention that it's a possible security risk too. Coinbase is also insured against hacks/thefts. It just depends on what your priorities are, if you don't really use your BTC very often and just have them as a long term investment then the Bitcoin core would make more sense but if you actually use your BTC to shop online or trade then I think it's worth considering online storage simply because they are a lot more practical.

For small amounts, online wallets are PERFECT! The problem are large amounts in combination with bad security. Always use 2FA, strong password etc.

Safest is armory. Lots of secure features on it.

But you will need to have bitcoin core installed, and the whole blockchain downloaded

As a hot wallet, then yes you need to have the full blockchain data to use armory.
But as a cold wallet, then no you don't need it.
