Yes it will make the same noise whatever mining you do.

You can make it considerably quieter by under clocking and / or changing the fan though Wink.

They can be very loud especially with the stock fan Sad.

I had a single G839 Noctua NF-F12 Industrial PPC 3000RPM PWM 120mm high performance fan on some S5s I was running a while back and they were pretty effective at cooling and were much quieter than the stock fan Smiley.

Just monitor your temps along with any fan speed changes to check they're okay.

yeh did that and got down to 40% fan speed and temps at highest of about 52....although at daytime ambient will be higher temp so it might not be suitable.....
what is a good temp to aim for? highest i can safely and run it at without dramas?

Try and keep under 60 if you can, obviously lower the better.

I am running just the 1 stock fan at 60% and mine doesn't get any hotter than 53.5.  I'll probably add a pull fan, too, and then over clock a little and keep the fans turned down as much as possible to keep the dB down as much as possible.

Can somebody help me with PWM fans? I've bought 2 Thermalright TY 143s for my S5. When I plug one into the 2nd fan header it spins up to 1200RPM and stays there. As far as I can tell the pinouts are standard:

PinUseWire (new)Wire (stock)
1GNDBlackBlack
2+12vYellowRed
3SenseGreenWhite
4ControlBlueBlue

Why won't my fan do more than 1200RPM? What I want to do is replace the stock fan with both 143s (push-pull) but they won't do the job at this speed.

Maybe it's an issue with the fan, did you plug it into the other plug?  I have a Delta pull fan on my S5 and it is controlled pwm via the second plug just fine.

One of my blades died and I took it out of the rig. When I power the seperate blade on I only get the 4 green LED lights on the bb and the red one. The blade LED does not turn on. I reseated all the cables, tried 3 different PSU's, tried different connection cables. The lights by the ethernet port don't turn on either. And holding in the reset button is unresponsive.

Anyone know what could be wrong with it. It was hashing 650Gh/s easily at a cool 58 degrees.

If I understood that correctly, you removed a blade and the remaining blade is mining fine. The blade you removed does not power on properly and the LED codes seem to suggest its dead.

If that is correct, then... yeah its dead and there's nothing we can do to help here. Keep mining as you are and dispose of / dismantle / play with the dead blade as you see fit.

Well, see, that's the thing. I thought they were dead too. The boards don't light up (red LED on the blade) but when I have them turned on it heats up. So i'm assuming it still works. Another thing I noticed is that the lights on the Ethernet port don't turn on either. Not sure if the beaglebone board is dead or if now both blades are dead. I have another S5 on it's way so I'll mess with the boards on the "new" S5.

Try the Enermax Twister Storm @ 3500 RPM / 154 CFM / 11 mm-H2O works like a charm on my S5s even with a substantial overclocking - will try soon on my S7 Wink

I just bought the S5 and the same exact PSU you linked. I had everything running for about 8 minutes before it just shut off. Now when I hit the power button, the fan on the S5 and the PSU spin for 1 second then do nothing. Yes, I have the paperclip in the correct spot. I don't know if the PSU is bad or my miner died... Is there another way I can troubleshoot it?   -thanks

curently have s3 running with no issues

got my s5
powers on
fans work
D1 blinks
D2 blinks and then cuts out
D3 blinks and then cuts out
D4 blinks and then cuts out

i tried to set the pools.... nothing
i tried to change mode from static to DCHP, was able to do that, got a gateway IP
its been running for 3hrs now and nothing

if i go to miner status, there is nothing there, not even for the fans

tried to reset, held button for 20 seconds just to make sure, it did not reset to factory

keeps working, but nothing is happening, what could it be?
