Unless you already have hardware, don't even bother buying mining rigs now. With the advent of *ASIC miners, you will never pay new GPU's off, therefore never turn a profit. If you go the ASIC route yourself, that would be an option.

*ASIC == Application Specific Integrated Circuit, and will begin shipping in October by the hoards.

To answer your first question, I used to make 3-4BTC/day a year ago. Now, with difficulty rising, I make a little less than 1BTC per day. This is NOT *usually* profit, just what I mine in a day (Of course it IS however, all profit *for me* since my hardware was already purchased before I heard of Bitcoin in May '11), but is not typical for someone just starting into mining.

I hope this aids you in your decision to mine or not to mine...  Smiley

11 bitcoins a week, unless difficulty shoots up on litecoins, which is plausible.

This is true! LTC is a little bit more profitable right now, but dificulty will be going up about 40% in less than two days.

You should be able to make just over 0.5BTC per day per GH/s at the current difficulty. I get 800MH/s and make ~0.45BTC/24hours at BTCGuild. Hashrate is approximate.

What kind of hardware are you using to get these values?

I've just started mining from a equipment I already had.
I only pull in about BTC0.3 a day in the first few days.

I feel I have a late start here and wondering if there might be a good opportunity to jump in with the ASIC stuff.

I've been mining for a long time but just recently registered an account on the forums.  I also get around .3 a day on good days, mining with my GPU during my idle time.

As far as the ASIC bit is concerned, if you're planning on jumping on that motion, I'd suggest doing it now.  Otherwise you'll be left behind while most people switching to ASICs are struggling to make what they make now after the switch.  It definitely isn't worth NOT getting your hands on at least one early on.

I must be doing it wrong because my 3.1Gh/s gets me about .5BTC/day +/-
You might want to double check those numbers Wink

I guess your pool must be more lucky than others

10195.60 MH/s
Average speed in last 5 minutes= 0.88 BTC in last 24h

5353.40 MH/s
Average speed in last 5 minutes= 0.48 BTC in last 24h

I guess BTC 0.09 / GH/s in 24h is more realistic?

(OK compared yesterdays numbers, I get BTC 2.13 for 15.549 GH/s, BTC 0.14 in 24h should be normal)

I want in, but I'm not gonna pay for equipment untill I see diff level out. Especially with asic's coming around.

I hate sitting and playing videos on yt and waiting ..... since October.

I won't be paying 600 for a FPGA only getting 6gh and won't be buying a pre order until I see results in field when it has asics involved.
