The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

No no no.. geominer. Not yet.
 Digital Geocaching Implementation is coming

Update

We've been hard at work developing digital geocaching technology and have had a lot of fun alpha testing it. I'm excited to announce we will be opening our HTML5 GeoCashing Wallet to the public for beta use on April 7th, 2015. Simply sign up and you can start GeoCashing right away. Using your smart phone or other GPS enabled device, track down the GeoGoins on the map. When you get close to a GeoCoin, it will be credited to your account. You can also drag and drop GeoCoins on the map for others to find! There will be a limited number of beta signups. The announcement will be made on this thread.

Thanks for all the great support from the community!

Our mission is to bring Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to the blockchain. GeoCoin innovations are always ongoing as we are building a community of GIS developers. Innovative GIS features in development include:

Digital Geocaching Implementation: An online web interface where geocoins can be dragged and dropped onto a map. When a different user visits that location (coordinate), they receive the geocoins.
Geodashing is an outdoor sport in which teams of players use GPS receivers to find geopoints around the world. The objective is to visit as many geopoints as possible and receive geocoins for it. There are quite a few fun ideas surrounding this initiative.

Geominer: The geominer gives a real world purpose to mining. Instead of mining random math algorithms that are essentially useless, the geominer performs GIS analysis. The results of the analysis can be viewed on an online mapping application. The analysis will be useful and apply to the real world. GIS analysis is used to make better decisions about real world problems and is used by major governments, private companies & organizations all over the world. When you mine with the geominer, you can feel assured that you are making a difference in the world. You can see the output and the difference we are making.

Geo-optimize network confirmations: Confirmations over the network can be slow and are an inherit problem with cryptocurrencies. Confirmations can be geo-optimized so that confirmations occur with nodes that are geographically closest to you. It is not understood yet how much faster confirmations can be.

There's a magical feeling about this geocashing app. The tech, community, potential and overall feeling. I've felt this before, it reminds me of when a small start up goes viral and turns into the next big thing.
