How much (if at all) safer is too have bitcoins sent to your wallet before funding a sight such as silk road?

Like say for example: I buy some BTC from https://get-bitcoin.com/ and give them the address of a silk road account instead of my wallets address and then going from my wallet too SR? So like just bypass my wallet.

Are there any risks to doing so?

Im pretty new too bitcoin so this question might be a bit silly but im just curious if your wallet is only for storage or if it has something too do with encrypting the coins?

I dont really know so anyone whose willing too shed some light on me thanks!

Have a good day.
