Did you give it enough time to confirm? If you have a problem PM with the info and I can check for you to see what happened.

I think the Secure Asset Exchange had a few hiccups earlier but is now running well.

You can purchase using BTC but the asset dividends will be paid in NXT.

That client works similar to a web wallet. You can create an account and login. Once you receive dividends you can send them to your favorite exchange and trade them in for BTC.

This way you don't have to install a client on your end.
