Neither you do when using a lightweight client. The real benefit of running the core client is securing the network, as others have already said.

Yes, that's why I don't see “will not have to wait” as THE benefit of running the full node.

It's more a way of supporting a project you like and making it better. By running a full node you sort of improve the network and its utility making it worth more (if only slightly). That's what makes Bitcoin so interesting - it's not only a brick of gold, but something you can spend time on, it's interesting!

If you use Armory, you can also see that it needs the whole blockchain so you can run the node and armory as well. Apart from security here, at least you know that you are contributing back to the community to help maintain it.

They are securing network and generaly helping it plus making downloading blockchain files to other users faster. No nodes in bitcoin aren't paid but few altcoins made it possible.

I am running full node, am proud that I am contributing my tiny bit to Bitcoin.  It is not as slow if your Bitcoin is running daily.

I think I will leave my Bitcoin Core wallet open for as long as my pc is open, just to help.

As a side note, there are now less than 6500 bitcoin full nodes in the world and the majority are located in US and western Europe. https://getaddr.bitnodes.io/
The number is pretty low, considering the size, value and importance of the bitcoin project.

I'm from the Philippines and it's shocking to know that there are only 3 of us running full nodes across the country.
