My fault I suppose. Forgot to ask him to authenticate when I checked his user rating, so probably just someone taking advantage of this user's rating. Nevertheless, I would recommend caution if doing business with this person.

They've had 24 hours to complete a transaction that should have taken an hour at the most, and have avoided queries on IRC multiple times, so it looks like 25 BTC down the scammer hole.

I sent the BTC here: http://blockexplorer.com/address/17VnKJ3eFtXJUVXWNkc9DnHBKFHBEfpj8V
They were moved to here: http://blockexplorer.com/address/1TRfYCEfBeNis7vj6sbEx89qVTRPMFw2Y
Then split here: http://blockexplorer.com/address/1FU2taUJ3QJqF8TiWVRUSZDDWG9zcrBJmL
and here: http://blockexplorer.com/address/12jFN3r1rjZkzQmL6qT3UKHnZLroGNYYhx

They all look like fresh addresses so no real info there, but figured I'd post them anyway.

[11:06] <ColdHardMetal> so 7.75*25 = 193.75  - 1.5 = 192.25
[11:09] <trilogy456> Alright, give me a minute, brb

[11:25] <ColdHardMetal> I'll be afk pretty soon, but should be able to deal with the email transfer on my phone.
[11:26] <trilogy456> No prob, I'll inform you when cash has been sent and you can verify it

Escrow is your friend..

Fair enough. Was in a bit of a rush and didn't follow best practices.

Posting this more as a reminder of what happens when you're not careful more than anything.

well, sad to hear you got scammed, but you should have seen that by the IPs.
two of them are from Amazons EC2 service, the third one is from Arizona. When doing such transfers you should have checked for the IP, especially since he wasnt wearing a cloak. You might get lucky by bringing the cops into the game. you might just get lucky, and I'd hope so for you.

Well, I can't see going to the cops for less than $200.

As for IPs how useful is that really? I'm on the other side of the planet trying to get money into my Canadian bank account. My current IP doesn't have much to do with Canada at all. I'd be surprised if it would even nail down the part of the country I actually live in.

sure, but an awkward IP should raise a red flag, and make you consider maybe an escrow for the future
