Are you kidding? Bitcoin would not be as popular as it was today. Mainly bitcointalk has been a platform where everybody into bitcoin gathers to start a discussion or topic whether it is simply for trolling or otherwise. I imagine all the people would be somewhere else scattered into different forums and the community would not be as it was today.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

What do you think the effect on bitcoin would be if bitcointalk stops existing

Satoshi & Sirius made this forum & gave the control of it to Theymos for reasons and they know how it effect on Bitcoin . If bitcointalk dies then Bitcoin will dies with it or most of it .... Basically 99% of questions with answers related to Bitcoin are here on this forums , so if there is no BTC talk then simply people won't know how to start . If it goes down people won't know how to start , a lot of websites will die with it too like exchangers & Gambling websites that are doing Signature Compaigns etc ... Grin

One less place to get knowledge and news from. This forum is full of knowledgeable people and it's always good to learn from them. Most questions asked would get a detailed explanation within 1 hour. I personally use this forum because of the active community here.

But people/the community would just move on to the next best thing if it ever stopped 'existing'.

As above of there wasn't bitcointalk there would be another forum. Bitcointalk was obviously just the first, though I think the way it is run has made it so that it is still the best.

I wouldn't really mind, but I'll miss the free Bitcoins I get with signature campaigns.

There are plenty of things to focus on in life Smiley

There would be some other place where people would discuss bitcoin. Probably somewhat similar to the bitcoin "meetups" that we saw a lot in 2013.

There is also sites like reddit that already exist where commerce takes place and that has a lot of bitcoin related discussion, including some technical discussion.

The Transit Coin is on the way. help us to decide the path we have to follow:

It seems to me that every time Bitcointalk goes down, the exchange rate goes up 20%. The effect is clear. We should make sure that Bitcointalk goes away and never comes back.

Good idea, start by yourself Wink

I know that , but what you just mentioned are far away from being anything like Bitcointalk forums . Beside a lot of meetups are made here on Bitcointalk "Meetups" section unless it's too official .
Personally as I said , nothing will replace bitcointalk at all and BTC may even die because of that . Reddit is #2 after btc talk.
