Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

At first I thought, WOW this is huge for Bitcoin. But then I was like, dammid he stated in his blog, that he already received the 50$ (!??) he asked for to keep his server running. So, probably no run on BTC to tip that hacker in order for millions of Apple customers to plunder the app stores. Maybe some publicity from the various articles mentioning BTC.
