Costs nothing to be listed on localbitcoins.com, and while there may not be much happening still, you'll in some small part help the spread of bitcoin. Eventually someone near you will look for some btc, and if you weren't there he'd not bother. Soon there'll be more listings and you'll have helped build your local bitcoin economy.

Congrats man, i'm working on making my first purchases too. I live in Asia though which is slightly complicating matters in terms of getting money traded.

Danny that's a bummer, do you live in an urban area? Maybe a craigslist posting would get more attention.

knight22, can you describe the process? Did you both bring laptops, or smartphones or whatever?

To answer your question, we met in a coffee shop with wireless and I did bring my laptop. The guy came with is iphone. Unfortunatly, I wasn't able to connect to the internet with my laptop, some IP issues... By chance, I had already sent him my wallet address by PV message so he told me "I will send you the bitcoins anyways". After he sent the bitcoins, he went to blockchain.info with his smartphone and showed me my wallets transactions to make sure the transaction has been really made and that was the case. This site is so useful! Finally, I gave him the money. That was pretty cool, we talked a lot about bitcoin while I was trying to connect to internet unsuccessfully.

I'm really quite jealous of you. I've been trying to do the Dwolla -> BitInstant/other wallet service for weeks now, but this drat 30 day waiting period is killing me. I actually came here hoping to do a person-to-person trade, since the 4 hour login time and 5 post limit is far easier than waiting another couple of weeks. I don't want to deal with the hassle of getting coins in person, so I'm dedicated to doing it all online; unfortunately, that dedication is turning out to be incredibly frustrating.

What method of transfer are you planning on using for the fiat portion of the transaction?

There is no reason to wait for Dwolla's retarded 30 day period. Do the following instead:

1) Open a wallet account at blockchain.info/wallet.  This is where you store your coins.
2) Go to BitInstant.com.  Select "Cash Deposit" as the source, and "Bitcoin Address" as the destination.
3) Enter your Blockchain wallet bitcoin address in the BitInstant form and fill out the other details
4) Go deposit cash.

Within 30 minutes you'll have Bitcoins in your wallet. This is available in US, Brazil, Russia, and Ukraine. More countries to come.

Hope they will do it for Canada too...
