Coinfest will be held in 25 countries. I am just curious if anyone here is going?
http://bitforum.info/t/annual-coinfest-will-be-held-in-25-cities-wordwide/228

That will surely be an exciting event and a good chance to meet enthusiasts and 'brothers in arms' lol

Anyway, I just noticed that there is no event in Asia? Singapore? Indonesia? Malaysia maybe? Why?

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

My friend Andrew is organizing it, I've pinged him to get in here and provide info.

I think he's planning to expand to more cities next year, but only so much one man can do.

Don't think I will be able to make it. Will there be news from the event afterwards?

Too culty for my taste. This protocol is only a tool, after all. Sure, it's a great tool, but if I went to $100 conventions for every great tool in my life, I'd go broke.

Remember Aaron Swartz, a 26 year old computer scientist who died defending the free flow of information.

CoinFest is free to attend. Smiley We also have prizes and give aways, but you're supposed to save them for the noobs so they'll learn to love Bitcoin.

The reason there's no CoinFest in East Asia is because nobody has stepped up to organize one. CoinFest is decentralized--it just has protocols, like Bitcoin, which you can choose (or not) to implement in your city. This is a network of autonomous nodes, eventually to be DAO'd

Looking at the map, its sad to say that Bitcoin is still not that popular around the world.
I hope next year I can see more reds on the map. And maybe 10 cities in South East Asia.

Here - http://www.coinfest.org/coinfest-2015-2/.

Glad you mentioned Asia. I might be attending it is near where I'm living - somewhere in Asia. The others is just too far for me..

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

Time to be active on the crypto forums again? Proud to be one of the few Legendary members of the Sparkie Red Dot!

Gonna put this on my resume if I ever join a cryptocurrency/blockchain industry!

Looks like for the first year, they are only targeting a few countries. Should expand to other countries next year hopefully.

It's been going since 2013, but only spread to multiple cities in 2014, and didn't leave Canada until this year.

We don't really "target" countries, though. CoinFest pops up wherever someone is willing to join us. If you want to see it in Asia, you could find a Bitcoin venue and host a CoinFest event, yourself--such is the open source movement
