i usually prefer zip file, so portable is good enough to me, and electrum is definitely very safe if you use it correctly, and don't lose your seed

It is safe as long as you backup 12 mnemonic seed phrase in a safe place.

I would go for either Windows Installer or Standalone Executable. I depreciate using Portable version because of security and other problems.

maybe trezor is a good option but if your trezor breaks you have to purchase a new one to get your keys back I find that stupid anyone else?

trezor still cost too much in my opinion, better to buy a cheap usb for cold storage and store wallet there

for your main desktop qt-core/electrum are the best, multibit seems still too buggy and armory has some problem too

Can you explain please? I have played it with and couldn't find problems that even Electrum had. Electrum was too buggy and slow when it had many addresses. It has been solved, I think.

Edit: ThomasV told it is optimized/fixed and it will come with version 2.1 . Hope it works!

I hope theres a solution soon since now i wait for my wallet to let me do something, my notebook is working hard, though the process only is using 13% of my 8 cores. The problem is... i got some bitcoins and i cant get them out anymore because electrum is working all the time, showing me a blank window. Ill try creating a new wallet with the brain sentence. Maybe a fresh wallet is a bit faster so that i can get my funds out at least?

Edit: It seems thats a workaround for now.

I finished that optimization. It is already on github, and will ship with version 2.1.

I'm researching wallets as well.  One thing I am hearing from some of you is to store small amounts in some sort of mobile wallet and larger savings in an offline more secure wallet.

So might a good practice with Bitcoin be to collect it in a mobile/online wallet up to say 1 bitcoin?  After it reaches a bitcoin, move it offline to the more secure wallet and start collecting again with the mobile wallet?

OK.  That's helpful.  To what amount would you let your bit-x wallet fill up before you "poured" it into blockchain wallet and started with a clean bit-x wallet?

Have you read the the post? He is using Armory portable & external HDD to store DB and because of his bad USB cable, external HDD disconnects and Armory get stuck. Do you call that a bug/problem of Armory? His second problem was already solved by version 0.93 & up which has been released when the person posted. His third problem is probably because of the external HDD. There maybe bugs in Armory like all clients. Even Bitcoin core has bugs. I don't think anybody can built a bug-free software.

You can store in mobile wallet as much as you like. You must check your mobile is good enough against malwares. Android is weak, so I think it isn't good to store big amounts in Android wallet. However, if you use Android phone as cold storage, it is okay. You should make sure you backup the files needed.
 If you are using a bad/poor client, I suggest you not to reuse addresses. Reusing addresses when using a bad/poor client will put you in danger as it exposes reused R values which will make a person easy to find your private key.

I depereciate storing Bitcoins in an exchange. Withdraw the balance as soon as you receive the payout. If you trade in BIT-X or the exchange you store BTC, keep only a small amount in it for trading and withdraw rest of the BTC.

Thank you for your advice, Muhammad.  Being new, I'm not quite sure I understand this part of it, though.

Blockchain.info wallet lost ~200(+) Bitcoins because it exposed reused R values. When R values are reused, other persons can use it to find your private key.

Similar example: You use phone and is protected with PIN. When you unlock it many times, some marks may be seen on your phone screen. A person maybe able to find your PIN by looking at the marks. I know it because I have find few PINs of my acquaintances' phones.

P.S. I did it on educational purpose and don't use this trick to unlock others' phones with bad intentions.
