Hello!

I have read about Bitcoin and understood that it is not a good idea to solo mine - but I want to try it just to see how it works so please no comments on how it's not worth it etc Smiley

I could use some help with setting up solo mining.

I have downloaded:
A bitcoin client (I think?) (Bitcoin core) - from here: https://bitcoin.org/en/download (It's syncronizing right now - I guess that's the blockchain?)

I have downloaded Guiminer from - http://guiminer.org/

And I have a wallet with the software: Multibit

Soooo....

I saw Dobrodavs guide here but I'm not sure if that's the right next move to set up the miner? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=10438)

What is the next step to set up the solo mining?

I have a normal computer - windows 8 - and will use my graphic gard.

Thank you all before hand Smiley

Edit: I found this guide https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=123564
Is it that simple? Sorry for my stupidity and newbie questions. I assume - being a newbie - that you are rolling your eyes at me Smiley Smiley

Edit 2: I just realized this post is in the wrong section. It was supposed to be in support and not software - SORRY! You can delete this thread, I will start a new thread in the right section

Why use a third party wallet?  You can just use the Bitcoin client for that.

Mining with a GPU will use allot of electricity and produce nothing.  Also GUI Miner is really old and unsupported.  And I don't think that web site is legitimate.

You should be able to get an ASIC Miner Block Erupter really cheap.  You'll still have piratically no chance of finding a block but at least you'll only be using 2.5 watts of electricity instead of 300 to 400 watts an GPU will consume and also have the added feature of not frying a GPU just for the sake of tinkering.

If you insist on mining Bitcoins with a GPU, I think BFG Miner still supports GPU's so go to that thread for help with it.

Good Luck and have fun.

Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?
