Maybe I wasn't looking closely enough, but I could't find the rationale behind the specific color scheme used. Does it have any particular symbolic meaning?

Like the symbol, anyway.

@mmdough: From another post in french, translated by google :

Quote
About the colors:
We avoided to dwell too much on the colors to avoid "It's ugly, "but here's our rationale:
We chose the colors primarily by deduction, avoiding the red because too touts and already present in the sidebars of websites (among others).
The green was easily associated with the dollar in its dark versions, and too low versions in clear or apple. Other colors or pose problems of legibility in small sizes (badge, favicon, etc.). semiological or inconsistencies.
The orange is already well integrated in the versions of Bitcoin existing logo and we find the right color choices, reflecting a positive and non-frozen and naturally associated with the coin and exchange. The gray symbolize a technical, inspirational software security. In addition they activate the orange without distorting it and fit well in heterogeneous designs that we can not control. The accompanying black is a black Ƀ typographical seemed logical to sit the character and ensure its legibility. In this is not personal choice but a deduction based on the existing Bitcoin, the graphical environment and competitors.

Sorry for the translation, time is missing today.

Oh boy, we need a designer NOW.

I mean, excellent effort. But designers are people who studied for their title and know that to design is to communicate.
Gold used as color has a strong SCAM connotation, we shoulnd't go with that.

My housemate is a designer, I'll ask her to do something and see.

Wait, what's wrong with?

The Unicode Ƀ is awesome if we can make it ours.

We just launched a shirt using a slight modification of your logo and the new Latin motto (Vires In Numeris - "Strength in Numbers").  You can click through to see the bigger version.

I really like the variation of the 'Another Bitcoin Identity' logo used in Safebit:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=29109.0

So I've used my crappy Photoshop skills to mash it up with the 'Bitcoin Accepted' signs here:

To create these:

Using the Ƀ instead of the baht symbol makes sense, due to it not being in use by another currency. I do prefer the old colorscheme to the proposed one here, however. Ƀ  (B with stroke) isn't used by another currency (is it?).

Why not to consider the "Б" sign? It also has a horizontal line (on the top), it looks more balanced, pronounced as "Be" and is present in all Cyrillic fonts Smiley

I like the idea of using B with stroke, since it offers us both upper and lower case versions of itself. When the Bitcoin cap has been reached, we will most likely begin trading in smaller denominations, down to a Satoshi. Having both Ƀ and ƀ affords us a way to distinguish between large and small amounts in trading.

I agree with Exonumia though, I like the orange circle.
