Hi - I've cloned the latest git repository, run qmake with USE_UPNP=- as usual, run make and when it compiles, I run it and it goes into testnet for the first time ever.

Any idea what the problem is, please?

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

You are right thank very much.

I am trying to create yet another alternative currency and had a bitcoin.conf in the ~/.bitcoin directory for that purpose.

Renaming it fixed that.
