According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

All of it is just electricity.

Funny how so called capitalists hate competition. Bitcoin is becoming communist (and no communism will never be implemented right so stop dreaming about your favorite definition).

i'm not saying there's no place for alt-coins, i'm saying they have drama surrounding them that has nothing to do with bitcoin.   they have a passionate community but unfortunately this activity is a needless distraction here.

incidentally, it isn't just alt-coins.   the securities subforum is a distraction and should start looking for a new home as well.

I fart in their general direction.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

I agree, the sooner the better. Those alt-coiners should make their own sites/forums.

If we get rid of the board they'll just start posting in other boards about it. At least it's all contained in that one forum.

And as much as I would like to keep the alt coins and it's trolls out of sight I wouldn't wish to stop geting the updates on Namecoin, which is the only alt with merit, but it's still an alt-coin, so it would have to go also.

BITCOIN IS AN EXPERIMENT

it is made to encourage forks, imitations and evolutionary development to gain FREEDOM.

Look up what satoshi said then come back or gtfo.

good point.   with moderation they could be banned if they persist but i suppose the alt-board quarantine is better than scattershot.

here's an example of the crap that their ilk brings though: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=96169.0 A Message to the Litecoin Group From Danny Maddox in San Francisco

people need to grow up a little over there.

just like how the developers' needs are different, they went off and created their own community using github, development mailing list and irc.  i realize that if the forum turns into an altcoin and pirate scamtown then the bitcoin community will move on to where its needs are met: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin:Community_portal#Bitcoin_Community_Forums_on_various_platforms

carry on then.

Only in an internet forum could competition be considered a bag thing.

I like both litecoin and namecoin, StoolCoin was great for the amusement value.

What "circus" are you talking about? I just don't read about them, so there is no "circus" for me, problem solved. I really don't see why that's not good enough.

Bitcoin is the ultimate freedom test. It tells you who is giving lip service and who genuinely believes in it.
