This whole thing was a joke. If you look at the addresses he used in the coffee shop, they literally have 2 transactions. They havent been used since filming, it was a BS thing.

I figured that place probably only took his bitcoin for the show, but that doesn't make the whole thing a joke. It's important that people think about asking businesses to take Bitcoin. Most of the people he asked if they took it, had never even heard of it.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

I actually fairly enjoyed that. Very well presented. Good for mainstream audience to see this wonderful technology.

I thought it was pretty good, I didn't notice the transactions he was making lol but the thing is this episode he did was actually very well balanced and they talked to people who knew what they were on about, well except for that prick of a politician of course but we all knew he was full of shit long ago.

My favourite part was the guy who brought in a hacker he knew to tell him about the security because none of the other journalists ever did that.

Heres a couple of links:

Video in HD:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCzKR6iHrn4

Story on CCN:
https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/cnn-show-inside-man-morgan-spurlock-lived-bitcoin-week/

I liked the show overall, gave a good no-bs view of Bitcoin. It was filmed in July of last year, though, so does feel a bit out of date.

The best bit is here, however, at the 6.00 minute mark:

Wait, are you saying they did something on a "real" TV show that was scripted and set up?  No way, get out of town!

I thought it was very fair and it held the attention of some not technical people who watched it with me.

He hit the advantages and the issue that not many people take it.  However, the business owner that said he had 10 to 15% credit card chargebacks was amazing.  I would never have expected it to be that high and that is a real advantage of bitcoin.

The Senator from WV actually said the "Federal Reserve should be in charge of bitcoin"... isn't that the one of main reasons the white papers were written?... guess who pocket he's in.

The bigger picture is the importance of exposure (no coincidence btc is up a few $'s today)... hopefully someone edits this into a short promotional youtube vid.

That 10-15% has to be BS.  The CC companies would suspend services to a business with that record.

In the beginning they repeat the myth that btc is anonymous. Later they say like cash it is untraceable and did that right before they covered the SR bust Huh.  Analysis of the blockchain is becoming ever more effective and any improvements in that area can be used retroactively.

I kind of liked it... some of the things that could have been improved is :

1. The way people can buy BTC - The stock exchange guy scene did not do it for me... A Bitcoin ATM would have been better.
2. The merchant with the $25 minimum price for coffee purchases are ridiculous, and should have been cut.
3. They could have had a interview with a Bitcoin payment processors like BitPay, to show how easy it is to accept BTC as a payment method for merchants.

I also liked the interview with the hacker, to point out it's security angle....

Overall a positive experience.  Grin

I've done some work with TV stations/production companies, mostly for news teams out in the real world.
I hate to break it to you, but almost everything you see is set up before hand.
This doesn't mean that the entire content is faked, but getting good footage isn't all that easy, expecially if you're working with non-professionals who get nervous as soon as a camera is pointed at them.  Not to mention that technology *always* fails in the presence of a camera team........

So, the fact that a lot of the footage is stage-managed really isn't all that strange.
No-one wants to see an hour of Morgan walking in and out of shops asking if they take BitCoin, while other customers stick their heads in front of the camera.

Maybe they used new addresses? And which coffee shop were you talking about? The one where he 'had' to spend $25 because of the 'volatility'. I could see that maybe being staged to try make a point. Surprised they didn't mention payment processors though.

the show was interesting but expected a bit more from it.
at least it is a good thing that cnn shows more interest in Bitcoin by placing a ticker on their site.

I really enjoyed it.

I expected much more negativity, but the overall picture was definitely positive. The only critic came from senator (who kind of looked like a villain), and as someone on reddit noticed:

Quote
The fun part for me was hearing him [Senator] say "It could vanish tomorrow" and "It's not going away" in nearly the same breath.

Although it would be good if the payment processors have been mentioned, and he could've clarified that it's not the usual way of buying bitcoins.

So, the fact that a lot of the footage is stage-managed really isn't all that strange.

Exactly. If the piece was 100% "genuine" (live recorded) it would be simply unwatchable.

Loved the whole piece. Still cannot believe they actually showed how to order stuff from Silk Road on mainstream media like CNN! In the presence of an (ex?) FBI Agent!  Dude looked seriously worried, though. Hilarious.

I must say that this was a great little doc about it and I hope that we can get more of these kinds of docs made and maybe start advertising more around the world with BTC.

A problem I see is that there is too much focus on Silk Road and other kinds of illegal uses.
Like people dont think that the money they use everyday is being used for drugs and a lot of other bad stuff.

I hope that we can do something about it.

Like Target a country and do as much as we can to make it use BTC more and more to set an example. (This is a dream, but damn I wish it could happen)

A good place to start would be in a small country with big influense and is based in EU.
*Cough Denmark.

If I had the funds, (Like 50.000 DKK/ 10.000$) Then I would be able to do A LOT of advertisement and make PEOPLE use BTC.

The problem I see is that BTC does have big merchants (Overstock, Microsoft and other big companies) but there is a lag of users who want to use the currency.

And the big companies will accept the currency, but they sell it instantly on exchanges, which makes it impossible to keep a buy pressure on the exchanges.

I might start a project for Bitcoin in Denmark since its a small country and everyone owns a PC, Smartphone and they want to save money. (Transaction fees)
