A lot of players have been complaining that in the tweet where SWC stated that the rake had been lowered, they neglected to mention that they actually increased the rake on tournaments. Has anyone heard anything about tournament rake increases or by how much it's been increased?

it looks like it was increased by less than 2%. I don't like how they went about it and they should have made an announcement about it for sure.
it's still lower than any other site tho.

I think it's a little more than 2%...5 chip tourneys went from 4.90 + 0.10 chips to 4.70 + 0.30 chips = 200% increase.

I was talking about the overall increase.. as in it went from ~4% to ~6% or something along those line.

also I don't believe the mini smooth was ever 4.9+.1, and if it was that's incredibly low.

whats the rake increase from 71.5+3.5 to 70+5?

I don't think that anyone actually gives a shit about them raising the rake on tourneys, I think they're more upset about how managment went about it.(which I agree completely.)

The site needs to be more transparent and honest with their players, noone wants to bleed the site dry(except maybe ernmcracken and razzle dazzle) and if the site is losing money then they need to be upfront with the situation and the loyal customer base will support it.

I wish the site was better too, I also wished that the old site would have used the boatload of promo money they had in the beginning more wisely(like not having a 7kchip-100chip buyin tournament that runs at 7 am in the morning and always overlayed for at least 2 coins.)

I also wish that they came up with a better name in the beginning and had a more professional attitude( I mean seriously, how hard is it to come up with the name betcoin?) when I first joined seals I thought it was a prank or something, its probably a big reason why we don't get more serious players.

I've talked to a site representative and asked how much the rake was increased by- the 5 chip tourneys were never 4.9+.1, they were 4.75+.25 , the overall rake went up from 5% to 6% and a few tourneys were raised by 1.x % in error and will be fixed shortly.

please stop giving misleading information, I understand you have issues with the site, we all do... but it seems as if you're actively trying to criticize the site at any given opportunity even though a lot of your arguments have been disingenuous.

Playing and not losing money in poker is long, frustrating journey.  There is pretty much no way to get better in poker other than playing hundreds of thousands of hands and developing the logic and intuition for the game through a heuristic approach.  Intelligence and math--without experience--will not be enough to make you a winning player.

Also, by pure mathematics, the average poker player is a losing poker player because of rake.  This applies in even the most elevated circles of play.

Some inferences I'm drawing from the rocklike silence of swcpoker and their actions.

The site is or was losing money.  I'm not sure how you can manage this with a poker site but suddenly canceling a freeroll that had been scheduled for a month beforehand, literally hours before it was on, screams loud and clear that they literally couldn't pay it out.  Otherwise, why not cancel it sooner?

This raises concerns about the solvency of the site.  Now, if they chose to do this to preserve that solvency and ensure player deposits are actually secure, rather than preserving an illusion of wealth by recklessly giving away money they didn't have on freebies, that's actually pretty responsible.  It's a lot better than how pokershibes went belly up after months of ridiculous, unsustainable giveaways and everyone with money on the site got shafted.

So I definitely would rather have the site do shit like this than cease to exist and go away with everyone's money.  However, why the fuck aren't these assholes saying even a goddamn word about this?

Fucking speak up you gutless cocksuckers.  This utter silence is basically spitting in our faces.  Explain what the fuck's up you idiots.

I can't remember the last time I played tourney on SWC tbh. Sites only good for cash games i mean why play small sngs when you can play overlays and big tourneys on betcoin/wpn.

I'm here because I can't get information anywhere else, as SWC management has chosen to go radio silent on all the changes they've made to the site in the last week. All the speculation could be avoided if your "site representative" wanted to step forward and clarify the issue. If you re-read my post, you'll find I didn't criticize the site or anyone else about the rake hike, I asked for information.

SWC certainly has every right to raise their rake, but their players also have a right to not be misled and a right to know about rake hikes so they can make informed decisions about the games they're playing. If nobody had brought this up, those tourneys that were being overraked "in error" would still be overraked.

Do you know what's really disingenuous? Making a big deal on the front page of the website about how you are "lowering rake across the board" (which is what it still says) until a couple astute players point out that it's a straight up lie. You act like SWC players should just keep their mouths shut when they see something shady going down out of some misguided loyalty, but they haven't shown any loyalty to their players in quite a while, so I'm disinclined to sweep their dishonesty under the rug when someone catches them red handed.

You actually don't have to infer that they are losing money, they've said it outright in this thread.

Obviously they have the right to raise rake and reduce benefits, but they are doing it in the absolute worst way possible and it's painting them in a very negative light.

Yes it's been down for almost an hour.  They tweeted 35 minutes ago that it will be up shortly.

Edit:  And they're up again.

Sorry about the mixup in what the rake used to be, I was working off of the only information I had available to me, which is what other players were saying in the trollbox. Perhaps you could point me to the page on the SWC website that lists tournament rake information so I can verify for myself that the overraked tourneys have been fixed? I can't seem to locate it. Or are you basing your rake numbers off of insider information that can't be verified and isn't available to all players?

If you go off information that you got in the trollbox, you can be pretty sure its inaccurate. for years people thought I was a fat broke mexican because of donk4u.

and as far as I can tell they've set the rake to 6% across the board for GTD mtts.

I do agree that seals management should come here and make a statement and man up, hopefully they are too busy fixing the site. Roll Eyes

LOL.  Yes, that seems likely...right.

I think a lot of players have confidence in SwC because the original SealsWithClubs had a long history of honesty and integrity.  Just remember that SwC 2.0 has completely different ownership, management, support, and software.  As far as I know, there are no holdovers from the original SealsWithClubs.

If SwC opened a year ago under any other name, the ineptitude, mismanagement, and false promises would have forced the site to shut down within a couple of months.  The fact they are still (barely) in business is pretty much a product of a misplaced sense of loyalty that some players feel towards the new site.  Slightly irrational since the people who earned this trust in their operation of the original Seals have nothing to do with this new site.  The only thing that SwC 2.0 has demonstrated is an appalling level of apathy towards how players feel about their numerous missteps.

The track-record for this version of SwC is only about a year long and it is almost entirely negative.  The only thing they have not yet done is outright steal, and their incredibly apparent financial troubles make me nervous that theft in the future isn't totally out of the realm of possibilities.

As far as I know, you don't know much.

Let's make more baseless accusations.

You sit here and post every day because they took away your welfare rolls, it's well known that you're just a disgruntled losing player and have stated numerous times that you want to bleed the site dry.

counting all their transgressions and all the bad communication it's still the best btc only site.

Try the support at betcoin or WPN, tell me they give a flying fuck about their customers.

Also, just because they're not on here making public statements does not mean that they don't hear the complaints, and every one of your concerns has been addressed in the main chat in seals, multiple times. They know they fucked up by not running the 20k krillroll and have already said that they will run one soon with ample notice.

If you go off information that you got in the trollbox, you can be pretty sure its inaccurate. for years people thought I was a fat broke mexican because of donk4u.

So, you're saying that you're not Mexican? Tongue

Honestly, none of the information that is posted in the trollbox is trustworthy, but neither are statements from any other anonymous player (such as yourself) from an anonymous poker site who is posting anonymously on a Bitcoin forum. That's why it's important that management make a statement in this forum, on their website, or somewhere else publicly accessible about what's going on. Right now, everything is just speculation and rumors. Sure, maybe some admin said something in the trollbox, but since they don't have chat logs anymore, how would anyone know 5 minutes later after it scrolled off the top of the chat buffer?

Also, just because they're not on here making public statements does not mean that they don't hear the complaints, and every one of your concerns has been addressed in the main chat in seals, multiple times. They know they fucked up by not running the 20k krillroll and have already said that they will run one soon with ample notice.

Wait, now you're saying that the trollbox is an accurate source of information?

I was told on the 27th in the trollbox that they would have the krillroll situation straightened out in some form within a week, but it's going to take a small miracle for them to make that deadline now. I also heard that they're rescheduling the 20k krillroll in the trollbox, but it's still not on the tournament schedule. Moreover, they haven't made any announcement about when it's scheduled, or even what the schedule is to reschedule it. They're using weasel words like "soon" instead of having enough basic integrity to take ownership of the problems they've created in the past week, explain how they intend to address them, and on what timeline. Their silence speaks volumes.
